everything is always changing, that much is for sure. just as money was an evolution beyond landlording and land an evolution beyond nomadic herding and so on, one way or another, i feel we are likely to be on or near the verge of evolving to something beyond money.

the argument for money being more convenient then draging your cow around, looses pertenence when you can download your cow from the net and print it out on your replicator.

but also the evolution of technology isn't any kind of a smothe linear uninterupted flow. its direction is greatly influenced by cultural incentives all of us statistically participate in creating.

at this late date it seems unlikely that dark times in terms of human suffering, both individually and as a species, can or will, be entirely avoided.

but those very dark times for us, may well be a time of cleansing and recovering for the planet and its resources. and when those dark times have come and gone, the opportunities will be amazing.

it would of course be preferable to avoid them. from an engineering and technology perspective, we have everything we would need to do so.

everything but the politico-social-cultural will. that's always the one big if, and the hardest of them all to predict.

so yes, for now, money may be ok as a tool, but when it goes beyond being a tool, and becomes the object itself, there's a certain disconnect from reality that sets in, and that's what has happened, and created this garden path to a whole lot of needless hurt we are already, all of us together, are inflicting on most of each of ourselves individually, that will only continue to get worse until we wake up from it, and even then, even now, its too late to avoid all of the hurt. just not too late to reduce what it will be. hopefully enough for that straggling few of our species who will then remain, to somehow pull through and survive.

otherwise it'll take a few million years for some other species to evolve sapience.

of course whatever WE do, life WILL go on, wherever, whatever, it is, in the rest of the universe. just not necessarily our own, on THIS world.
