MSG is more plausible. I think that LSD would have them tripping, not thinking they were poisoned.

finally this makes a whole lot of sense now..

 

In that article they don't specify whether they tested the actual meat or just did blood tests on the people. If they just did blood tests and the meat was tainted with ergot alkaloids, then the resultant metabolites would most likely be the same as LSD.

Considering that LSD would degrade very quickly in the heat needed to cook meat, it is far more plausible that the meat was tainted with ergot alkaloids.
Not to mention it has to be just about the most asinine method to try and dose someone.
