    I never mention the Spanish, because yes people do do that. I just say "Irish and Mexican" to keep it simple.

    I mean, I only have 2 parents. My dad is mainly Irish, my mom is 50% Mexican... So, I'm not really catering to anyone, just being simple.

    Sorry, but you are incorrect in your usage of the term "heritage".
    You are also incorrect about heritage being the same as ancestry.
    If I were to adopt a child or by marriage have step-children, they would then become entitled to any type of heritage I may pass on, according to accepted definitions, regardless of the lack of a biological link.

    If you are talking about your literal family tree; so-n-so fucked you-know-who and had whats-his-name, that kind of crap, well that is known as ones ancestry.

    You are using the terms incorrectly and no amount of linguistic gymnastics is going to change that.

    Having said all that, my ANCESTRY is German/English on my mother's side and German/native American (Choctaw) on my fathers side.

    My HERITAGE however is American.

    My dad is Mexican, and my mom is Spanish and Euro mix.
