Sweetie Pie had her kittens this morning. She has two *edit 4 that survived. One was stillborn. I didn't get to see it but Hubby was awake. They are tiny; probably about 3 inches long and both are black.
The second kitten died last night. This morning, Sweetie Pie has two, apparently, healthy kittens left. I'm feeding her chicken and chicken broth. Hopefully, it will keep her strong so she makes good milk.
Caring for one cat has, now become caring for two. About 2 months ago, our elderly neighbor, had to go into a nursing home. She left a cat behind which was just a feral, she started caring for several years ago. We felt sorry for the cat so fed it. But we don't want any more. Help I guess we could just stop feeding. And animal control is volunteer, so no help there.
I guess I never really explained myself. But can I expect, more cats to show up? Only leaving limited amount of food out. And bring food bowl in over night.
Hi jimandjan, I have a feral that visits a lot, I give him a bowl of food, and when he is finished he takes off, I bring in the bowl and clean it well... I also don't share those bowls with the other inside cat. Leaving food outside attracts more than cats... racoons, dogs, coyotes, feral cats are just some of the creatures roaming our neighborhoods at night. Here in California we have skunks, black bears, bobcats and mountain lions, so leaving food outside, or any trash at all is asking for trouble. First cat is female. Not sure of second cat, its wild, runs when we walk out the door. Its rough looking, like its been in a fight with something. Thanks for the advice.
That second cat sounds like a male. Male cats fight during breeding season. I'd recommend getting a hav-a-hart trap and taking the female in for spaying. If she's not spayed, she will have kittens that will come to your food bowl. If you don't want to do that then stop putting out food. The animal control department here has said that if you are feeding ferals then you are keeping them healthy enough to reproduce.
