    Is there any Finnish folk on here? I'd love to have a pen pal where I could speak a little Finnish to expand my knowledge of the language.

    I say this word to all the (few) Finnish girls I see, but they are not happy (just kidding).
    Finland is great country.

    Native Finnish speakers must look at those who are trying to learn Finnish with some mixture of admiration and pity considering it is a very hard language and the only place you can use Finnish is, well, in Finland

    I am planning on studying Finnish pretty soon because I want to move there to settle down with a family and becoming fluent will probably take me quite some time.

    Letters Ä and Ö (two doughs above) are similar to A and O but, please pronounce it very softly like a baby and stupidly.

    Å=swedish "O"

    Åbo (Obu)= Turku old ex capital of Suomi with population 190 000.

    Tampere in past socialistic labor city with population 220 000.

    Oulu Nordic big center with population 190 000. Technology, University, Logistics.

    Main capital is HELSINKI. Helsinki area with Espoo and Vantaa is 1milj. of people. Placed on south coast with boat, plain, train connections to the world.

    Animals= similar to Canada

    Finnegan language group= finish, Estonian, Hungarian, Turkish, numerous Siberian tribes.

    Finland got it's independence in the beginning of 20 century. Before that it was squeezed between Sweden and Russian.

    There is two official languages= finish (Hyvää Päivää/Good Day) and sweden (God Dag..:sultan:)

    numbers= Yksi, kaksi, kolme, neljä, viisi, kuusi, seitsemän, kahdeksan, kymmenen.

    Joo!

    I hope I'm not bad for replying late in this forum. Totally didn't expect a Finnish thread.

    I've been learning Finnish for a while and I love Helsinki and the rural parts of Finland I've got to see.

    Have you been to Finland? if so, you beat me to there. I am 3/4 Finnish and have not made it there yet.......but I want to go someday.

    I can tell you about a Finn's character , though...You say hello to one and they look at you with disdain and abruptly say..."What do you want?" :D

    i think the little bit of Irish and Scotch that is the rest of me saves me a little from that.....

    I have heard about this in Scandinavia. You don't talk to strangers only your friends. If some random person talks to you they must be wired of trying to scam you. Silence is golden speech is silver. But it kind of makes me want to visit since I am shy person too. In America there is often so much pressure to make "small talk" or seem rude. I will probably never see you again I don't need to talk. If there is something important to say I will say it.

    I've been to Helsinki four times so far!

    Well in Sweden they are a little more outgoing. In Finland, yes there are quite often seen as an introverted culture. However whenever I've been lost in the city, people have been polite and relatively talkative.
    I've only heard someone 'apologise' for walking into me or not holding the door or whatever once so in that respect, no they aren't rude, but they won't go out of their way to say something that can be silently understood.

    I love the metal and rock scene there too.

    Lucky you, Mokah! You have been to Helsinki 4 times.

    My brother went there. he has gone to all 3 countries that are in our heritage....plus many other countries. I have only been to Scotland that is in our heritage......which I loved. I need to get to Ireland and Finland one day.

    Yes, I have always called the Finns extremely stoic....but very strong people. They had to be, I suppose.

    They also like bright colors.

    Do you know of Merimekko art?

    Mokah is a very pretty user name. :)

    Sweden and Norway is black metal. I'm sure they have other types of music but I can't name it.

    Marimekko? Yeh I like that company. They have cute stuff. It's sorta pricey so I've never owned any of it. Their mugs are my favourite.

    Finnish fashion shops are really nice for sure. I liked the shops Only, Bok Bok and Seppala. I'm not really a shopper but I did like those places.

    You should definitely check it out one day!
