Yeah, dubstep is only loosely related to dub. I don't like most offshoots of dub (and reggae) as much as roots dub and reggae itself. There is some cool electro dub though, and I especially dig the stuff when its mixed with eastern influences. Nope, they are still there! Maybe you clicked on another vid in that window after the song was finished? Then it would show that name afterwards until you refresh the page
I did exactly that Asmo, thank you. Its showing true now. I like dub very much, but I'm a fan of dubstep too.
http://youtu.be/btdiGxqZjEc One of my favs was Eddie Grants Electric avenue...dub kings dubbed it, but this would be more like techno dub to me.
Yeah that version of the Dub kings sounds not really good to me I'm afraid. I do associate that sound with dubstep. Just not my taste (and too far from dub to fit properly in this thread imho) But I do like electro dub like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yhZtc0JaEk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sco4rrBa5A
http://youtu.be/NvoAsy9ibso check this out. When I was in Bulgaria they were playing a lot of it. Im with you on the d kings, I didnt like it either. I used it mostly for example. The original is tough to improve on.
If electro dub matches all the important typical dub characteristics it seems often to be considered straight up dub (like with the Brain Damage example, but maybe even Puja dub operators can be considered straight up dub as well, just not roots). I think dubstep's most clear distinction from original dub is that there is no on going riddim (and how they use the bass sound). But I am not an expert on technical stuff or how to explain it (especially in english). I just hear that it's something very different
