    tricky... ;)

Negative space is not a scientific or religious concept and the only thing it has to do with philosophy is it's connection to the philosophy of art or "Aesthetics."

Negative space is a part of a dual artistic concept (along with positive space, of course). It represents those areas in a three-dimensional artifact (be that a person, place or thing) which appear, aesthetically speaking, to be a part of the artifact but are actually "void" or empty space. It is defined largely by the filled space of said artifact, but also by the eye of the beholder. It has been considered that, as much as silence is an integral part of music, empty space is an integral part of three-dimensional art.

    I hope that helps.

All our universe could be like a breathe out (considering it since big bang) the anti universe should be the breathe in ... that come after, or before...
    no?

Negative space is not technically void of everything, so therefore it's actually a false concept, some concepts never seem to be fully explained. Supposedly to simplify thing's and help you learn, but that just makes certain people to become skeptical of everything they learn, which could be a good or a bad thing depending on how you react to thing's that make you skeptical.

no negative space, nor positive space. just space. space reflects what the individual sees, not the whole population, just the individual. to me, there is just space.

Where did you get this term, "negative space"?

Does this mean that non-space is the opposite of infinite?

I think the term you might be looking for is "nil space."

its mostly a yin yang thing. with out evil there could be no good, with out useless there could be no use. consider this, out of everything that exists, you use up only a few square feet of space, at any given time. that is the only space that can be useful. but if we took away all the space that you werent using, how long would those few square feet be useful. you dont realize the usefulness of all the space you're not using(useless space) untill the useless space is gone. the same is tru with this negative space. if it didnt exist, then the normal space would have no meaning, and would not be infinite.

yin-yang things are about emptyness and fullness, form and void, both of which are bennificial and useful. the causing of harm is neither, nor is its existence in any way neccessitated. pain and injury are not quite the same question, and nature's way of telling us things can sometimes be experienced as them. neither does diversity which is the nature of existence exclude anything. so you could say harm exists because it is not excluded from existing, not because there is otherwise any neccessity for it to do so. but it is not at all likely for this to be represented by some vastly powerful negative force, sentient or otherwise, unless you want to count entropy itself as that force. cold is not a form of energy but the abscence of heat which is.

Of all the other responses to this post, I think yours, Woog, comes closest to truely expressing the aesthetic concept of negative space. "After the Divorce," hmmm, might make an interesting piece of installation art, don't you think? Might have been done already, but still a good understanding (if somewhat heavy handed - lacking the more subtle vagaries of, say, chiaroscuro) of the use of negative space.

    After the divorce:
It would be an interesting introspective. A couch with no TV. A table with
no chairs. A bed with no headache. A woman with no asshole.
    I shall begin collaging anon.

If your question is what is outside the universe if it is infinite your answer is simple. See if we live in an infinite universe that is expanding it must be expanding into the only thing it can, existence.

There is such thing as dark matter associated with i guess what you would call negative space inside our own universe. All that black in space isn't empty, it's actually filled with dark matter or dark energy. See as the universe expands galaxies get farther apart but whats in the middle, the negative space, between them its just there like they think maybe that the reason the universe is expanding is that this dark energy is pushing everything out, this is thought to be something that could continue indefinately, thus, making our universe a true infinite system, a real infinite system not just some quasi-infinite system we once believed it was. So, are you amazed?

    Your question is meaningless.

    Space is not infinite.

people! they always wanna complicate things!

    here:

according to the law of scale, there exists an infinite range of reality. from here things get infinitely larger, and infinitely smaller. eventually they meet up again.

    it remains simple: get inside.
