Watch what you say on these social networking sites. Burglars select their targets based on Facebook updates; Facebook denies link - FierceCIO:TechWatch
What next? Facebook workers are forced to work in sweatshop conditions? I should watch what I say on Facebook, though.
I'm not gonna read the article... but what the fuck is up with the "facebook denies" part of the caption? Is the company really so hard-on to maintain total innocence in anything related to abuse of their site that they actually have the gull to say "We deny that someone use a status update to deduct when someone wouldn't be home so they can rob them?" How can you even deny something like that? It's not up to you how it happened. Fucking shit
I guess the best thing Facebook could do is at least provide warnings to their members about being careful with the information that they post.
It does. "Controlling how you share". Nobody seems to read it, though. It can't prevent people talking about what they are going to be up to, though. That's the whole point. You just have to be careful who you befriend. If people are STILL leaving their accounts wide open then they deserve to be robbed.
If people would stop and think about how much information they put out, the problem would not exist. The invasion of privacy and violations are their own doing. Limit information.
Serves you right if you keep postin' stupid shit about yourself on facebook every 30 minutes. Then you have your asshole friends tagging you in pictures doing some illegal shit, so your boss can see them the next morning when you called in sick for work. Facebook sucks.
Yep-- Kinda odd for FB to "deny" it when common sense suggests that if you broadcast to the world that your possessions are going to remain unprotected for a period of time someone is going to use that info to try and help themselves to it... but I suppose they are being "proactive" in terms of potential liability when the folks who put that information out there end up having it used against them. Some people have to learn that the hard way
Taken from the article: Facebook has denied any link to the burglaries, and said it has contacted local police and confirmed that only one of the burglars was a Facebook "friend" of his victim. ________ Why does it matter if only one of them were friends on facebook... all that it would take would be one to see the status right? Still, the victim is responsible for what they post.
Why would Facebook be to blame anyway? They didn't tell the idiots to brag nonstop about everything they do... I have friends who put their addresses and phone numbers out for the world to see. And another who likes to post pictures of his new entertainment equipment...it's ridiculous.
well when you think about it, thats actually pretty smart. not sayin id be dumb enough to do it though
