Domestic Violence International Resources I'm quite certain that I never post this link below, but maybe it's good? Domestic Violence International Resources : The Zero 5.0laf - The Official Website of Andrew Vachss There's also www.hotpeachpages.net, that has a world-wide directory of domestic violence and abuse resources.
This list is a work in progress. I will add more resources and include links to the programs. Warm Line- similar to a hot line but usually staffed by volunteer or peer staff. Can help if you just need someone to talk to before you are in crisis. They tend to have more time to talk to people. They are less intimidating than traditional crisis lines. for things like pending loss of housing utilities or food: Mental Health Association- A national agency with branches in every state. Services range from advocacy, support groups, case management, housing assistance, employment, children services, respite care. Centers for Independent Living- Has a branch in every state services vary by agency but include Advocacy, peer counseling, benefits assistance ( ssi,SSD,DSS,unemployment, local grants ) Catholic Charities- there is a chapter of catholic charities in just about every state. They can offer financial assistance on a one time basis. Some even offer legal services for divorce or imigration issues. You do not not have to be catholic or part of anyreligion to get help. United Way- is also in just about every state. The services that offer range from financial help to counseling, homelessness, services for the elderly. Salvation Army- has programs for homelessness, food, drug and alcohol programs. Office of the aged- Aside from offering services for the elderly they also provide access to food stamps and heap for people on SSD (social security disability) Food Banks are everywhere and offer free food. They are usually provided by churches and community agencies. It usually doesn't matter how much money you have as most do not have income limit. Some also have co-op where you can buy food at a great discount. PAMI ( protection and advocacy for persons with mental illness)- Provides legal advocacy for people who are discriminated against, people in mental health facilities, reside in nursing homes or other institutions.
