Yeah, Hitler made some pretty terrible mistakes. Invasion of Soviet Union, like the OP mentioned. Also, his decision to declare war on U.S. after Pearl Harbor. Big mistake.

bush just started wars he could or would not finish, lets not forget the 10s of thousands of dead Iraq citizens. Not to mention that the war in Iraq was started because of his personal vendetta against saddam, then sending haliburton over there so he and his croneys can scoop up some massive war profits at our soldiers expense.

It's been a while since I've read or studied anything about the French/Indian War, but I was always under the impression that he never really was able to show off his military leadership skills until the revolution. And even then, his first significant victory occured after midnight, on Christmas Eve, attacking an encampment of drunk Hessian mercenaries. I could be getting some things mixed up though.

Many historians consider the Wermacht(thats German Army WWII) to be one of if not the best Armies of all time. The US was able kick the Wermachts ass whip the Japanese Army and liberate half the world in only 3 1/2 years. We've been in Iraq for six years!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!

This was due to a vastly superior resource/manpower base, not to mention over 70% of the German forces were on the Eastern front.

Two more contenders from the American Civil War.

General George B. McClellan (USA) has long been the stereotypical textbook example of a general who never has the confidence to attack, no matter how perfect the opportunity, or how great his resources and preparation.

General John Bell Hood (CSA) had the opposite problem. His entire philosophy and strategy of war can be summarized in a single word: "attack". He always attacked, in all situations and under all conditions, until nothing was left of his army. Highly ironic that our nation's largest military base (Fort Hood, Texas) is named in his honor.
