This may be a bit of a broad topic, but I've been indulging in a lot of hippie music and am beginning to run out of new bands to listen too. It would be nice to have a comprehensive list, maybe it can be stickied. Anyone have any contributions?

    Sample list:

    The Allman Brothers Band
    America
    Arlo Guthrie
    The Association
    The Band
    The Beatles
    Blind Faith
    Bob Marley
    Buffalo Springfield
    The Byrds
    Canned Heat
    Carole King
    Cat Stevens
    Cream
    Creedence Clearwater Revival
    Crosby, Stills & Nash
    Donovan
    The Doobie Brothers
    The Eagles
    Emerson, Lake & Palmer
    Eric Clapton
    Fleetwood Mac
    Frank Zappa
    Grand Funk Railrad
    The Grateful Dead
    The Guess Who

Ok, no one has mentioned this band yet, so look at the flying v Godzilla is holding in the picture underneath. The innovators of the twin lead guitar sound, from which many other bands crafted their style to/from.

Why is Phish considered a hippie band? I have listened to some of their stuff and it doesn't particular sound hippish, nor does it have any hippie messages. So what's the deal?

Phish is considered hippie because: they were the second big head band to make it commercially
the flotsam in the lot tended to be hippie (or frat boy)

They were not afraid to bend rules, attractive trait to hippies.
