I could say something about what you just said..............but I'm too relaxed right now. Maybe some other time. Have a good day brother xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Don'tcha worry sister! My science teacher called me a fake hippy once (which is weird 'cos he was supposed to be teaching science but oh well) Anyway, I know I am a true hippy. It's just who I am. As many people as they like can call me a fake (they have a right to free speech as much as the next person) but I know that I am true. There is nothing fake about me. My friends know that. My family know that. And (I hope) my brothers and sisters hear all know that. Smile hun! Be happy! Even if no one else believes you, I do. I will always believe you are a true flower child. If you ever want to talk I'd be glad to lend a set of ears. Much peace, love and hugs wished your way my sister xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Actually I was stealing a bit of Frank Zappa's acid wit for the purpose of trying to convince myself that I'm clever. Beyond that, there was a point to his parodying among many, many other things, the hippie movement. My take on his interpretation of the hippie culture is that as a whole the whole movement was less real counterculture and more a fad to be exploited by businesses... and the whole movement likely was and from that perspective still is more style than substance. People tended to only care about peace and love because their friends did- but the happiest beneficiaries were the purveyors of incense, tie dye, patchouli, psychedelic drugs and the music that accompanied them. The selfless ideal of universal love is a very nice concept but in practice runs very counter to most egos and drives to get ahead in life... something which tends to get measured in dollar (or Euro, Yen, etc.) signs. There is an element of that in nearly all of us whether or not we choose to acknowledge it. The key to making the movement have an effect is to impress on people that the ideals of the hippie movement are in their best interest. We'll never have universal love... the closest thing to that is the very slim chance of universal tolerance.
I went through a smilar thing a couple years ago and i still am going through it in a lot of ways. The main thing is not worry what other people think like everyone here says. And not limit yourself. Give people the benefit of the doubt and don't decide they don't understand until they've proven that. Oh and one more thing don't be wasteful i'm sure you know thats a big 'part of being a hippie being kind to the earth!
Based on that last part of your post i would say your already a true hippy. Just be yourself and dont worry about what other people think about you. Peace and Love
What crazylegs said. It isn't good for you. The person you described as the person you despise is the typical human being all over the world. You can either love humanity as yourself (because it is yourself) or you can hate it.
I agree with soaringeagle. I would quote the crash test dummies song "God Shuffled His Feet", but I already did on another post. imho, there are no "fake hippies" as opposed to "real hippies". I plan to post my own thread on that very topic, so that's all I will say here.
