Yeah it doesn't suprize me that someone would say that. I get the 1st 3rd and maybe even 4th but I bet the 2nd is just because you like to do burnouts.
No, it's a prerequisite for #3 It's so you know how to operated the clutch without looping the bike. Seen it many times, people dump the clutch and end up with the bike on top of them. I basically quit riding street, too fucking dangerous, but if i ever get this basket-case Benelli put together, I might convince myself to get back into it.
I just joined up. I was actually hoping more people ride on here haha. It's about all I do. I've built 3 bikes and owned more than I can count. I'll never own a Harley. I'm not a name brand guy. I'm skilled enough of a mechanic to not be impressed.
Bought a 1982 yamaha virago 920 shaft drive - was lucky only had 13,200 on it. Course first thing I did was put about 150 pounds in back of me - all on top and went cross country and back - about 5,000 miles - no windshield in 2 weeks. And really bad - last time rode and biggest bike was a 360 honda in '85. Dumped it coming to stops a couple of times before I was able to handle that top heavy load. Live and learn - no injuries except pride. Doing the same with a windshield and saddlebags in a few months. yeehah !
Yeah, its a 79 or 80 650 Yamaha, I forget which. It was chopped many years ago and had the engine rebuilt. It handles much better than a stock one and is a lot of fun to ride.....but I took it apart about 5 years ago to repaint and haven't reassembled it yet. I started to rewire it but other things came up, maybe this summer. You can see it better if you go to my profile pictures album.
I know how you feel, Etrain. I have had several different Metric Cruisers and now have a Harley Road King and 2 Honda Gold Wings (a 20th Anniversary and a 30th Anniversary). I'm the first to maintain that HD is not the be all and end all but mine has character being 17 years old. Horses for courses, my man. We ride in a social group, not a club, and we don't care what anyone rides as long as they are out there doing it..................goodness, we even let BMW's ride with us............(insert tongue in cheek here).
Rode for a few years until my knees gave out. Can't stay on it if you can't hold it or lift it up. Some guys seem to be able to ride forever, though.
