imo Billie Holiday was one of the best blues singers she sings and chills go down my spine... Janis is another one...when I hear that women sing I feel like Im in a different place... So who does it for you?
Janis Joplin Melanie Safka Marvin Gaye - "What's Goin' On?" Al Green - "Tired Of being Alone", "Belle" Isaac Hayes - "Walk On By" Curtis Mayfield - "If There's Hell Below" Gladys Knight & The Pips - "Midnight Train To Georgia"
Mind Gardens ...thanks and water baby...I plan on looking up any suggestions people give here...I luv soulful music and I must admit that beyond those lovely ladies I don't know of much :blushes: blueeyedson Billie is so easy to fall in love with
nina simone, cesaria evora, louis armstrong, lisa hanningan (who sings with damien rice) and to name one song in paticular "ederlezi" by goran bregovic. this is one of my fav songs ever, it's so good, everyone should hear it
oh yes, bregovic is good. and ''orchestra for weddings and funerals'' . do you like gipsy music in general or just this one song? i'm into ethno and world music so i listen gipsy music often. mostly balkan - serbia, macedonia, bulgaria and of course andalusia. hungary and russia not so much - too orchestrated for my taste
While my favorite vocalists are Billie and Janis, I have to add Sandy Denny in. Her haunting sound is sweet and heavenly. But Ive never seen any of those folks. For live performance, the ONLY person to give me literal chills was Stevie Ray Vaughn. Ive seen tons of guitar players, and he is the only. When I saw him doing Jimis 3rd Stone from the Sun live, it capped a night of amazement. Hearing his records didnt come near to prepare me for his tone, energy, ability and speed. I can only assume its as close to seeing Jimi as I would get.
