Why does everyone love the fucking Beatles?! Okay, I do enjoy listening to them, and they did some fairly good stuff, but not that good.

As musicians, I don't think they were incredibly skilled or special. Much of their earliest stuff is just lyrics about loving some girl or other, sang over simple strumming and basic three chord progressions.

And yet millions of people think that they were the greatest rock band in history. Why?

you disgust me, but heres my take.

In their time, the Beatles were extremely innovative and experimented with many styles. They were the first to do many things. Their different periods were as different as different groups (e.g. "Meet the Beatles" compared to the "White Album".) Listen to how the guitar speaks the words on "I want you (so bad)" on the "white Album" and you get a sense of creativity.

p.s. no i dont think they are the "#1" band of rock-n-roll

    *led zeppelin has my pick

I don't like the Beatles. Never have. I just can't get into them. There are songs of theirs, though, which I've heard and liked, especially after they started tripping. But for the most part I don't like their music. It bores me.

DOOD that is like complete BLASPHAMEY!!!! you suckss DA BEATLES ARE GODZZ

Seriously though i know what you mean, but its true that they were innovative in their time which hrough the ages have been copied and overproduced and manufactured tirelessly over the years, its kinda hard to appreciate who they were.
They werent much as a group, kinda like an old school version of the backstreet boys
not until they started solo careers did they take off and become something, lennon benifitiing most of all

ok man, in one point of view you're right; but can you do that (eps. shaking all world or to be a well-known band/person) only using "basic three chord progression" ?if you say yes please do that and don't talk me about music anymore...music is not only complexity or something fuckin' like that... i agree with you about "the greatest rock band"...i think there is no greatest one in rock music..

When the Beatles started to experiment with LSD from Rubber Soul all the way to Yellow Submarine. That was the time I believe the Beatles cemented themselves as Rocks great bands. No other rock band experimented with different instruments like the Beatles did, and had the creativity to make it work. Magical Mystery Tour in my opinion is one of their bests. Revolver coming in a close second. But I agree the starting of their career was a bit boring.

I can't stand those old Beatles songs. My sister was into it like so many other slobbering and screaming teenage girls when I must have only been 3 or 4 years old.

Then the freak out began when the beatles became hipper and stranger than before and many of the old crowd backed away slowly.

As far as I'm concerned thats when they had a bit of merit!

The recordings (two I believe) George Harrison made with Ravi Shankar are the absolute best! At one time I had copies of both.

It's just that the same old frigging songs get played over and over and over again on radio stations exploiting the same hand full of the same stuff until eventually a person begins TO HATE IT FOR CHRIST SAKE!

i mostly like george he was so creative i love his work after the beatles broke up i love the beatles and thats just my opinion ringo wrote some weird songs and so what if john likes to write love songs and his wife was crazy i love the fact that their so creative but with out them there would be no jimmi hendrix or ted nuget. they paved the way for rock and meatle and thats only my opinion so there.

I agreethat they are way overrated...there early stuff is just awful, its kind of funny how it was such a revolution at the time.

I prefer bands like the Kinks to the Beatles, although i do like some of the later stuff, and I like Geaorge Harrison a lot.

I went through a phase when I was in high school, and I've been burned out on the Beatles ever since.

i hate you! & it's not about how good of musicians they are but it's in the lyrics & the music itself. they were great.

That's a matter of opinion, and if you think they're great then that's up to you. I think some of their stuff is alright.

But what I'm getting at is, I don't see why they're always elevated so much above most other musicians and bands.

You can't say that a band is the "greatest ever" or that they're better than somebody else, simply because most people agree about it.

Anyway, don't hate me for thinking the way I do. It's an opinion man, and I respect yours, there's nothing wrong with liking the Beatles at all.

But on a final note, concerning the lyrics. Some of them were probably really good, but let's face it, weren't a lot of them just meaningless crud?

alrighty. i've loved the Beatles for as long as i can remember, but i can have an un-biased perspective about them too. there early stuff doesn't really apeal to me anymore, the music isn't really that interesting, and the musicianship is quite sub-par. everything post Revolver (including Revolver) is very good tho. George's guitar playing evolves and becomes unique and interesting, John, Paul and George's songwriting really develops. so i still don't really understand why people go crazy over their early stuff, but i can't get enough of post 66 Beatles :)

I can't speak for everyone and I don't know to the extent that they were rated cause I wasn't around, but I love John and especially Paul's voices. I think the songs were creative, I still haven't heard everything but I can't wait to. To look at them, It's like they changed right along with the time periods, but kept their core. Don't hate, appreciate :)

I dont think that you can judge them on their ability to play music. It was all about starting something new and bringing something to the masses that was considered absurd. Dont hate them because they were really talented but enjoy them because they paved the way for all the bands you listen today, whether its moe or one of those punk bands
