When I got my very first dog it was really werid. This was about 2 years ago. My family and I went into the pet shop... Saw my dog Sarah and decided to get her. As the guy was bringing her out of the cage...it was like everything stopped and it was just her and the guy walking towards us. I mean everything was dead silent...for me anyways...and it looked like everything around me had stopped moving. And I looked right into her eyes...and the name Sarah poped right into my head. And then everything turned back to normal. I know it sounds like I was high or what ever but its completly true. Anyways I turned ti my mother and told her, that the dogs name should be sarah. She said she was thinking the exact same thing. And when I told her about how the name came to me... She said that the samething pretty much happend to her. So my dogs name is Sarah a cubby chocolate lab. (I would post a picture but I don't know how) I was just wondering how you came up with your pets name and if anything like that has happend to you.
Lily and Daisy are two of my dogs and I just happen to like to name my dogs after flowers. My third dog which I am finalizing the adoption on Sunday is named Oscar (i HATE that name) but I'm pretty sure he's had that name his whole life so I dont think it would be fair to him to change it just because I dont like it. I got lily from the shelter too and i'm sure she had a name at some point but she responded to "lily" like it had been her name always. Beaker (after the muppet) is my cat....well that is his technical name that we use at the vet's and stuff. because i hate having to tell people that my cats ACTUAL name is poo poos. no i did not name him after a pile of crap......when he was a kitten he was so dainty and i had not come up with a name yet and i was calling him "poo poos" just like as a cute little nickname and it stuck.
Our little dog is named Millie Grace, from the Phish song Fee, and I honestly don't know how that came about. My bf had her before we met. Our big dog is Jerry Bear. People sometimes give me shit because I gave a girl a "boys name", but when we first got her and she was 6 weeks old, we were on the road. I was driving and Ian had her in his lap, and there was a Jerry Garcia sticker on the dash right in front of him that said "papa bear". She had the same peaceful, "puppy-dog-eyes" look on her face as Jerry had in the pic, and ever since then she's been Jerry Bear without a doubt. That's her name. One of our cats is Nermal (yes, after the cheesy cute kitten in the garfield toons) because when she first came to us (after obviously being abandoned) she was just the absolute cutest little gray tabby you ever saw. We were actually joking when we first said she looked like a "Nermal" but when she heard the name she responded and we've called her that ever since. Our other cat named herself "Mhyrrr" (It's the only word she says). Sometimes we call her Merkin (as in a pubic wig, don't ask... ) I've also had a street cat who came around a lot, who we called "hungry". And a little kitten I traveled with for a while until he was healthy enough for adoption, who I named "Al" because when I rescued him from under a house we were playing the Paul Simon song "You can call me Al". Wow. I've had a lot of animals!
Branwen is named after a Welsh Goddess, I'm interested in mythology so had come across the story but didn't think that much of it. Then we saw her at the rescue and I just couldn't imagine calling her anything else. Was so insistent that my family just rolled with it. The name itself means 'fair raven' (ie dark beauty) which suits her apperance. She had been provisionally named Lucky, which was a noble and appropriate sentiment but I'm not really keen on 'pets names' like that. So her middle name is Felicity as that has the same meaning but is a bit more elegant. Casey is named after Casey Affleck, I just like his movies and he seems a cool guy. And Jack is after Jack Kerouac. Put together they had a lyrical 'cowboy' thing going which suits his character. The name Casey itself means 'fearless' which I suppose you'd have to be to go down the back of a couch a chew wires. Charlie is named after my late maternal great grandfather, he and my mother were very close so it is a fitting tribute. We went for the nickname form because Charles seems a bit too 'serious' for a puppy, and the vowel ending will carry. His middle name was an inspired moment of mine while watching 'walk the line'. I nearly went with Joaquin [yeah I'm a total fangirl/loser], but my family would never have got the hang of that. So went with Cash instead; as my brother and I both like Johnny's music, and Charlie's coat is almost pure black.
As soon as I walked into the shelter I zoned in a on a beautiful Siamese. As soon as she saw me she stood up and stretched and walked right over. Ever since then I have been smitten with my beautiful Mantra kitten. 4 years ago we had gotten an abandoned kitten who got pregnant at 6 mos. She had a litter and we kept one and named him Conan. He was such a little barbarian then, and would scale up walls, and wrestle all his other siblings. Now our Conan the Barbaricat is the sweetest and gentlest most sensitive boy. Our latest addition is our Airedale terrier, Dreama. She is such a sweet girl and her name means joyous music. We had chosen a bunch of names, and Dreama seemed to fit her most. She is such a dream.
We share our home with a few cats, in adoption order - Rory (after Rory Gallagher), Willow ('cos I like it!), Gypsy(again 'cos I like it!), Loki (he was mischievous before he got fat!), Gaia (Earth Goddess and part of a Rush song), Aztec (ancient tribe also part of a Rush song), Maya (same as Aztec), Vishnu (Hindu god and part of a Rush Song), Vashti (after Vashti Bunyan), Bilal (Arabic name from the book Hideous Kinky), Pixie (Ani DiFranco Song), Poppy (I walked into the garden and saw a poppy), Flutter (Chris Cornell song [Flutter Girl]), Zappa (after Frank Zappa) and Darlene (she was the first born the night we were supposed to see Dar Williams in concert!). Before we had Loki we had Dusty who was found in work, again in a skip - she died 10 days later due to being so malnourished and we think she had internal injuries. We recently lost our little Dharma, my mother found her & siblings in a box. The first 3 we found through freeads, next 2 from the RSPCA, next 2 were in a skip where I worked, next four are Maya's kittens and the last four were Dharma's kittens. Phew!
Harley- 14 year old dog, named after the bike 'cause my dad's a biker and rides a Harley Tink and Toby- parakeets, I just liked the names Sandy- Guinea pig, 'cause she looked like the squirrel from Sponge Bob Lila- fish, it's short for lilac which is sorta the color of her. Motley- Guinea pig, she is multi-colored and Motley Crue was playing on the radio Pheobe- Ferret, her original name was 'Pee-Pee' and I did not like that Roxy- my new dog, her adoption is almost final. It took my family 2 days to decide on a name ( even though she my dog) Most of the animals were rescues except for the fish and two birds.
Well, our neighbours named their dog Oakley after the sunglasses, and our other neighbours dog is named Stella after Streetcar named desire My mom said I could pick the name, and I was thinking for about week before I was listening to some tunage and looking at picture of baby boxers, and then it hit me : MARLEY So her name is Marley.
my girl dog has a "boy" name too, but it's often a girl name sometimes in hispanic communities. I don't care, it's her name and it fits her. She was so little when I got her that I couldn't tell if she were a boy or a girl without any other puppies to compare her parts with (she didn't even have her milk teeth yet and her ears were still closed). I had a black lab/english sheepdog mix named Angus. He was named after Angus Young when the only thing that would calm him down was when I sang AC/DC songs to him. I had a show collie my grandmother bred and gave to me when I was one year old who we called Dinksy. Her official name was Dixie Dale's Lady Delilah, but I couldn't say that, so Dinksy it was.
all american mutt! She looks just like a german shepherd, but only weighs 20 lbs. Someone, a while back, had a pic of a dog in their siggie looked just like her. Maybe I have a photo still up at photobucket....
Attra Dea's Credit Approved "Visa" - Visa literally owes her life to a Visa card. The litter developed parvo and the breeder spent $2000 keeping them alive. Some of the puppies didn't make it. The litter name theme became money. Visa's brother, Amex, doing his SAR work. Visa's sister, Cash, stacking. I have way too many other animals to explain their names lol.
Bonanza Jellybean... from "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues". We call him BJ for short. Pictured sitting in his favorite spot, my shoulder.
my dogs name is ozzy, after the prince. one cats name is smokey cuz it was that when we got him from pound. and other cat is tiger cuz he looks like one
