Got any that you can't live without? Got any that you could do without ever seeing/smelling again? I love dill and cinnamon (not together of course). Chervil and caraway are others that are near and dear. Not big on cilantro, curry, cumin or ginger.
Crushed red pepper and cayenne pepper are my favorites! No matter how bad anything tastes, you put some of that stuff on there, and it becomes completely edible. I don't think there are any herbs/spices that I don't like, though! ~Nova
I LOVE curry. I mix it with coconut milk and tomato sauce, after I've browned the spices, and use them on EVERYTHING-green beans, sweet potatoes, etc. I also like dill. and I use cumin in my pinto beans, ginger in my green beans and in my strawberry/cucumber juice. I've actually grown to love cilantro! Wow! Our lists are opposites. I also use garlic in everything.
I'm a big spice fan, and I like pretty much all of them. Strangely, most of my favorite spices are your least favorite, Duncan, so dinner at my house may not work out. LOL. I even put a dash of Cumin in marinara sauce.
I can't get enough of basil & chives! I love cinnamon, cloves and lemon thyme aswell. Not so fussed on the curry side of things though. Basic girl aren't I?!
I'd die without cinnamon. but I also loooooove fresh garlic, fresh ginger, curry, cumin, cayenne pepper, black pepper, basil, thyme, and cardamom. when I was little (actually, i'm still pretty primative, i think.. but i've come a long way lol) I would not TOUCH any foods that had any sign of herbs. Green things in my food were not my idea of a good time That carried on till I was about 11. ahah. I was missing out. Then again, I only recently got over my fear of onions...
definitely love almost every herb/spice but my favorites are: cumin, coriander, cayenne, thyme, ginger oh, and twice the garlic any recipe calls for
let me see... cayenne, cilantro, cumin & garlic are my most-often used spices. I love adding & experimenting with spices though, so my spice shelf is pretty full. I recently found a mixed "spice" that I've been adding to everything lately. Lemon pepper. YUMMY! love, mom
I agree with lucy, CURRY!! But I also dig italian food a lot, so I'm in love with italian seasonings and garlic powders [fresh garlic is much to strong and crunchy for my likes] Num Num
i can't stand the powder stuff, i feel so artificial when i use it......whatever that means.. but i also can't stand the chunkyness of fresh garlic which is why i got me a garlic crusher and/or an electric food chopper. heaven sent that chopper was. straight from god himself. especially because i cry at the slightest slicing of an onion....it's embarassing really.
Hmm maybe I'll have to experiment with one of those and see how I like it. I love buying kitchen ware, anyway I get more excited over new kitchen gadgets than I do like clothes or anything else. Anyway...! Thanks for the tip
me too, it's pathetic. Now that i've moved into my own apartment......oh man, it's a treat. 7 year old me who used to slave over her playskool kitchen set is SUPER happy for me.
As long as it's fresh: Basil Chilli Garlic Ginger Corriander Parsley Edit: And Lemongrass! my favourite.
Dried dill, fresh sage and basil, lemon thyme... Fresh mint leaves with a light sugar glaze. Cinnamon and nutmeg are definitely on the list as well. Along with oregano, vanilla (does extract count?), and definitely salt and pepper... Cloves are great too! But I can't stand cilantro at all... And I almost forgot ginger! (I found ginger altoids the other day and I love 'em) And fresh garlic
Lemon thyme? Can you grow it indoors? Does it taste at all like lemongrass? It sounds divine. I love ginger. Ginger ale, ginger beer, ginger altoids, ginger snaps, gingerbread muffins, ginger tea... but I almost never cook with it. I use it in oriental dishes, but that's about it. I think I need to find more ginger recipes - my tummy LOVES ginger love, mom
