those little bits of searingly hot, melty blacktop crumbs that stick to the bottom of your foot when you're crossing a street or something.

    i hate those. :(

hehe, I quite like it when things stick to my feet. It gives me an excuse to stop and stroke my bare soles as I dust them off. If anyone happens to be looking at me while I'm doing it it's a bonus, as it's a sort of message to them that I'm barefoot and this is a normal part of it and I'm happy to just go about it in public.

It also feels good, dusting my bare feet, of course! :)

most things i don't mind. stones, pebbles, even bits of glass that aren't sharp enough to dig into my tough hobbit-feet...but hot bits of melty crumbly blacktop, like they fill potholes with...gods i hate those. they can be so hot it burns almost, and they leave that sticky little spot of tar on the bottom of your foot, and bits of grass & things stick to it all day...yuck! the only thing i can think of that's worse is melted gum. i hate gum, too.

now mud, that i like. love walking barefoot in the mud!

Half the fun of going w/o shoes is that you get stuff stuck to your feet.

    Mud is the best!

Ah, the concept of "there is a time and a place for everything."

A time and a place for everything yes. Time and a place for burning bits of tarmac, I dunno, probably they're there for a reason. Still I'm sure you can get used to them, or learn how to avoid them one way or another.

I live in Texas and in the summer the ground gets EXTREMELY hot  . Blacktopped surfaces are especially bad. I have learned to use the white lines (they are much cooler) and shadows from trees, buildings cars etc. Sometimes its simply too hot for me to be barefoot outside in the middle of the day . The trade off is in the winter (what winter?) I can be barefoot some every month of the year! :D Take care and keep them bare!

I think that if I were reading what is said here and I wore shoes, I would get the impression that going barefoot is a concern. All those nitpicky things to worry about when my life is already so full of annoyances.

Unfortunately those kind of people do not understand the attention we pay to our minor barefoot concerns is because we LOVE IT.

Taking care of my feet and feeling good about a part of myself that is "supposed" to be covered is a treat!

Shod people are cruising for a problem.

I am running into more and more people with serious foot problems. When I suggest they go barefoot, the reply is, "I can't."

These people are not kidding, they have abused their feet to the point at which there are only a couple of pair of shoes that their feet can tolerate for a part of a day. After that, they physically cannot bear to be on their feet.

Wearing shoes will hobble you, much like the women of ancient China who allowed their feet to be bound all day to "beautify" them.

What it did was cripple them and present day footwear is crippling this nation.

Wearing shoes is no joke, IT WILL DO HARM.

Podiatrists would be out of business if people threw away their expense footwear.
