You can get Sepsis from a Urinary Tract Infection?!

Dont think I've ever heard that before. Although in this case I dont know what state she would have been in due to drug dependance, but jeesh

Anyhow, the fifth porn star to die recently. I wonder how much this actually has to do with the opioid epidemic rather than anything else

 

M:y wife had that unpleasant experience. Fortunately, she was in the hospital when the sepsis became critical. The docs and nurses in ICU saved her, but she was in an induced coma for a couple of days. No warning. It just happened from a simple UTI.

 

I read the article..strange to attribute sepsis to a UTI and to die from it...good grief none of that really adds up to me.

Then they associate that death to 5 other very unrelated deaths ... except for the adult film relation, right?

My husband has been hospitalized twice for Sepsis that originated with a Kidney Infection.

I also have a younger friend with Chronic Kidney Disease. She's been hospitalized several times with Sepsis that came from her Urinary Tract.

Never let any infection linger.

 

i'm pretty sure, i'm no doc or para or whatever, but i'm pretty sure you can get sepsis from almost anything that can get infected.

 

Makes sense that an infection elsewhere in your body, if left untreated, can spread into your blood. Happened to a family member, only with a bladder infection.

Sepsis, full name septicemia, is caused when the bodies immune system struggles and then overreacts fighting an infection. The process first releases large amounts of toxins into the blood, causing drop in blood pressure as they affect the heart, followed by progressive multiple organ failure leading to the death of the patient. The condition is most associated with pneumonia following vomit entering the lungs. Urinary infection is also a common trigger. Some doctors are concerned that the rise of the condition over recent years may be associated with an initial weakening of the immune system by the over and incorrect use of antibiotics. This is quite alarming, since in these cases antibiotics will fail in any attempt to use them to treat the septicemia.

Makes Mgen even more scarier, the recent antibiotic resistant bacterial STI (Mycoplasma genitalium), that lives in the urinary tract, how many people are going to end up getting sepsis from that. Or worse, it gets propagated more than it should by the opioid epidemic

I see similarities with Mgen and the early 80s hiv thing at the moment, the medicos are going on about it, the general public doesnt really have a clue yet, take us 10 years to work out how many people are actually dying from complications

 

She was in a drug clinic or rehab or something.

But i'm sure there will be some that will love to ignore other factors and make out it was because she was doing porn, no personal responsibilty of course it was all mens fault

 

It's kind of terrifying to see these antibiotic-resistant infections killing people; it won't be long until antibiotics are ineffective against most basic infections. Recently, I have heard stories of formerly common infections such as strep throat killing people due to resistance. It's weird how little attention this getting from the media and the medical community--it's a huge fucking problem and we are starting to lose control of it. And yet folks still go to the walk in and take a z-pack every time they get the sniffles. Yikes.
