    Yes, folks it's true. And your mother was part Neanderthal too. Your dad as well. We are more than 8% Neanderthal, cause our ancestors had sex with them and we've got 8% of their genes. Actually it's 4% Neanderthal and 4% from a "sister" species.

    So it looks like they've finally figured out what happened with these subspecies. And sex was definitely involved. Who thought otherwise?

    Yes, I know many people think our race eliminated the Neanderthals in bloody battles, but it's quite possible we just merged with these other races.

    What's interesting about this study is that they discovered the relationship between races by looking at genetic immunity markers. Apparently humans got immunity from various diseases by interbreeding with Neanderthals. However they make a point that this may be why, as we age, our immune systems turn against us. Might even explain allergic reactions.

    It is possible that the interbreeding killed off the Neanderthals, giving their tribes deadly diseases while we gained more immunity. I guess it would depend upon which specific diseases we gave them.

    I wonder if we will ever know the whole truth about what happened to the Neanderthals...

    Funny and interesting stuff! A Philip K Dick character had a theory about this in a book he wrote in the 50s!

    makes a good argument for us being an alien species that was bred into this planet doesn't it?

    Wether by breeding or manipulatoin, if you were an alien speicies to a planet, mingling genes with the local species would be the a good way to ensure they could survive.

    It would also explain the 'explosion' of civilization after thousands of years of pure survival...

    I just read where one story says only those who aren't of African heritage are part Neanderthal. So Africans are more "human" than we are... Well genetically at least!

    What do those southern racists think about that?

    those of them who can read will google around and find that the neanderthal looked like us and had a brain bigger than ours by ten percent. this will worsen things a lot ;)

    That's not true. Only a small percentage of the European and Asian population have Neanderthal genes, and even then, it's only about 8%.

    It's nothing to be proud of, either. During their 300,000 year reign in Europe, the neanderthals never moved past simple stone tools, even AFTER modern anatomically correct humans were present in the same area (and if they were breeding with us, they would have been trading with us).

    No. HIV/AIDs was transmitted from other primates to humans from the consumption of bush-meat, not from sex.

    The lack of common sense and scientific literacy here is astounding.
