I just found out that there is gelatin in yoplait yogurt, probably in many others too. i was just wondering if you eat it even though there is gelatin in it?

Isn't yogurt dairy? Or do you mean other types, like soy yogurt?

This was the last & hardest dairy food that I gave up. The active cultures really seemed to "like me." I'm hunting around right now, to see if there's a way to use my mom's old yogurt-maker to make some soy yogurt, because the soy is twice as expensive.
    love,
    mom

most flavored dairy yogurts have gelatin. see the package for flavored Yoplait.
Mountain High and most plain yogurts do not. it is used to "stabilze" the fruit in the yogurt.
as an FYI, Taco Bell sour cream appears to have it as a stabilizer, too.

late edit fat free Mountain high lists kosher gelatin.!
    dammit

i found out about gelatin almost 4 years after being vegetarian. it was very frustrating beacause many of the foods I ate had it. after that i laid of all kinds of candy and junk food and stayed with strictly vegan foods.even now i find out about other animal ingredients i had no idea about... thats why i changed from vegetarian to vegan to raw vegan. eating raw is the safest way to avoid any kind of hidden animal ingredients.
i didnt know yogurt had gelatin in it though, i dont eat it anyway but its good to know.
when i found out that camera film has gelatin i stoped using it and switched to digital... and i'm a photografer so that was hard for me.
you need to find out what are the "secret" names they put on food labels to hide the disgusting truth. i heard of an ingredient that comes from the sweat glands of sheep... yuky... and its actually in many foods and personal care products... sorry but i dont remember the name, maybe someone here know...

Oh, thank you so much! I will be going to Mom's house on Monday for our bi-monthly bake-day, and will pick the yogurt maker up then. I'll try it right away.

Thank you SO much! I have missed yogurt, but can't justify $1 per cup! I ought to be able to make my own for just over $1 per QUART! That's cheaper than dairy yogurt!
    love,
    mom

Gelatins in the painkillers I take for my leg.... I stopped taking them though, but if it's real bad I'll open the capsule and take the powder without the gelatin.

Like gelatin is rendered animal bones, skins, tendons and ligaments. Ick.

Ow man.... I hope your leg is okay! :) They should really have 'alternative' painkillers.... and make it clear that the pills aren't veggi friendly... im guessing you didn't know when you first had them?....

the lable should say if it does have gelatin.
i don't take any type of medicine... i try to do everything naturaly... it's not easy when it's that wonderfull time of a girls month...
chamomile seems to help with any pain i have...
sorry i went of the subject hehe

and about the film... i took 3 years of photography so i'm sure it does have a gelatin layer that protects the film... i'm not sure if all film has it... maybe there's a cruelty free film... but even if there is... the chemicals used in photo labs are propably tested on animal anyway. so it's kind of hard to be 100% cruelty free. i find out things all the time... i guess i'd have to be buda to de perfect ;)

look for vegetarian capsules. usually you'll either have a hard time finding them or they are there and cost more.
"Suitable for Vegetarians" might be on the label.

yes, film has gelatin. No such puppy as cruelty free film.
I surrendered and bought a Nikon digital D70.

kefir is a great alternative to yogurt, i've found. i love it muchly. it has more cultures in it than yogurt, and i like how it's more like a smoothie :)

What I do is just blend a couple of bananas and some soymilk. Its nicer than any yoghurt IMO.

i think she's wanting yogurt for the active healthy bacteria cultures that are in it. bananas and soymilk do not contain those...
