It's been so long since I was in school, I miss homework, that's so nerdy... Would they have breaks if it was year round and would you graduate earlier if it was year round..?
They tried to pass it here to have year round school.....but parents didn't like the idea. The board said that students would have two weeks off every six weeks. They wouldn't graduate early.....but they would get a better education (depending on the teacher of course). I think it's a great idea.
Haha I'm so glad I quit because I was so sick of school. I'll go back, but I need a break and a new major. Homework is fun if I like the subject.
It sounds stupid. How exactly would parents swing child care? They would still have to work their normal hours, then try to get day care for random weeks throughout the year? The kids need two months off between grades. By the end of June my kids are worn out. If they then had to go to a higher grade and do an even bigger workload, they would burn out. Kids with behavior problems would be worse. Kids who catch up during summer school would be shit out of luck and left behind.
oh yeah, that would be a major downside. for the most part, i think that we're just used to the way it is now and changing it wouldn't make that big of a difference once we changed our habits to go along with it. i don't know that kids really need a break, at least not as easy as school is these days... an alternative to summer school would have to be thought of, and in some areas where the kids are still needed to work on the farm, this could be a major problem. otherwise, i doubt it would make much overall difference in the children's education. aren't there places that already do year-round schooling? how's it working out there?
Well all the schools are on the same schedule here.....except for the Christian academy. Day care is easy to find here. There are churches (if you're poor and don't mind your kids learning about Jesus), expensive day care, and all the ladies that opened day cares at the schools when school is not in session. I rememeber my mom letting me stay out of school because I would be so sick of it, but that was because we hardly ever had any breaks. We had Spring break, Winter break, Thankgiving (all of two days) and Summer break....oh and let me not forget the handful of "snow days" they would toss in unless something happened to the all mighty schedule. That was for an entire year. And to catch up over summer? Pfft we all always had to catch up the next year so what we needed to learn was left out. (No wonder Georgia's educational system is so damn sad.)
when i had year round. it was HELL i hated it so effing much. i was miserable.. i thought i would have fun.. but no... the breaks are too short and for me it takes 2 weeks for summer to set in. so i like the one break longer..
Whats wrong with what we have. Yes there are issues with the current education system we have but making kids go all year will make it worse - not better and IMO will bring the quality of education down as students fall behind more and more and teachers burn out. Thwe problem with schools are that teh admins and teachers simply don't care about teaching. There are a lot of teachers who truly care about their stubents, but there are far more who see teaching as a way to get a paycheck and thats it.
I miss writing papers, I use to love writing papers, that was my favorite thing to do...Sometimes I will still write essays and papers .. What are you going to be studying when you go back to school? I could see where the year-round would be hard for the parents and so forth, and perhaps the kids like the longer summer break as opposed to the little ones.. I could always tell a difference between the teachers who liked teaching and those who didn't..
And i think its a good idea because unless you keep studying through the six week holidays, by the time i get back to school, i've forgotten most of the stuff i learnt. Plus i go out of my mind with long holidays.
there's schools that have gone to the four day week. kai's school has a VERY short summer break. it keeps the kids from forgetting absolutely everything they learned the previous term and having to start all over again. by the time she graduates from 8th grade, she'll have a 10th grade education. the plus side is that they have more frequent breaks during the school year. i haven't seen a problem with burnout amongst any of the students. i suppose it would depend on the children and the school.
I went to a hs that was, well, not quite normal. I suppose you could say we had grades, as in 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th, but it really meant little. You could finish a grade in 4 or 5 months if you worked hard enough, yet your peers may take the entire year. We didn't work on the same page. Fridays were optional, and although there was summer break, that was optional as well, unless you were falling behind. This probably wouldn't work well for huge masses, but I thought it was an ok idea.
personally, I think there should be school 365 days a year...... get these damn annoying kids off the internet for longer. Summer on the net is a very bad place.
