Well with all respect, i don't care about ambiguous titles. I usually check out the threads made by the people i know even they may possibly ambiguous. That doesn't change anything for me.

I don't think you should bother, this isn't , in my opinion, very important...

It's not about YOU! Typical response from the self-centered.

    THINK!

Or is that too much to ask from today's young ppl?

wohhooo the fury of skip :)
well, my friend antoine here(who's very smart and very kind so what you sad was slander remember banny mcbannister he was sooo cool :D) wanted to say was that we in the YH are a very close group of people who know each other very well, through posts, and we don't mind reading random titles because we already know partly what the post is intended to be...
plus, randomness is one of the best things about YH. randomness makes me all fuzzy and warm inside. :)

It's not about "Random" titles, it's about "ambiguous" titles.

It's not about "a very close group of people", although, that IS part of the problem. You thinking that this forum is nothing more than "a very close group of people". It's not.

You ppl STILL aren't THINKING. Sad.

And I refuse to spell it out for you.

Is there not one among you smart enuf to figure out why we want the subject in the title of the thread?

Hint: All you ppl think about are yourselves.

OK, so, the user gulfwinds the stupid wants to post a thread about: mayonnaise, her cat, the butcher next door, her dad being computer nerdy, cuticles and mushroom intoxication. It"s her every right to do it. So according to you, gulfwinds must specify in the thread title: mayonnaise, her cat, the butcher next door, her dad being computer nerdy, cuticles and mushroom intoxication. But Gulfwinds, not thinking that much herself, will post the following thread: "Oh shit man".
    She thinks that
    1) "Oh shit man" will have the same effect on the reader as "mayonnaise, her cat, the butcher next door, her dad being computer nerdy, cuticles and mushroom intoxication" will the one and only exception that the latter is just plain dumb.
    2) This is not an information forum. YH has no topics of great importance. most of our threads are about nothing, we agreed on that right? I'd agree with you if the topics that are discussed had an information value, or were of great importance, but honestly, you already know better than me what YH is all about. That's where's your real problem, not in the titles.

No the problem is thinking this forum is "YOUR" forum. It's not. It's not mine either.

It certainly is what you make it.

It's not a chat room, yet that's what you've pretty much made it.

In chatrooms there are no "titles" to worry about.

You act like thinking up an appropriate title is antithetical to your existence or some kind of harsh torture. I assure you it's not. It's good netiquette and reflects a certain maturity.

Sure you want to send an email to your friend, fine. Title it whatever you like. NOBODY else is gonna see it.

I can guarantee you this however. A forum full of bogus titles is gonna guarantee that the ONLY ppl who see it are those who are already here. Nobody else on the ENTIRE internet is gonna give a shit about your thread. That's cause they can't find it. But who cares if we never ever get a new member here. It's your private club, right? Geessh.

Skip, it's the element of suprise. Usualy these threads have stories like

    Title: YEAH!!

DUDE! I TOTALLY ACED THAT EXAM!

You see? ambiguous threads have cool things inside. :) That's why we're so pissed off.

The problem is, acceptable titles are boring. They're bereft of irony.

So I think you should oozing irony from the moment you get out of bed Skip. You know. To make up for it.

Well if the forum is "certainly what we make it," then why can't it be a chat room? Assuming that is what it's turned into.

All in all it doesn't matter what we think, because we don't have the power to change it. You're 'the man' that holds that power. Whether we can have random thread titles or not I'm still going to post here, I love this place. But some of the randomness is what got me addicted to this site in the first place, and I for one can't see it turning people off.

a chat room doesnt have threads. its im with multiple people, usually who dont know each other.

and its not a private club. people join all the time. if they get along, they stay. its not like we pick on people cause they aren't "us".

i think its, quite honestly, that you, skip, are only thinking of yourself. because this forum gets a lot of people, and its a lot to "administor", and you're probably pissed more of us don't give you our money.
though i dont see how this encourages any of us.

I recently started a thread titled My Cupid Stunt...

It gave no clue as to what would be inside it before it was opened (Oooh the Christmas spirit is STILL here!!), except that it was in True Confessions, but it let people's imagination work a little as they decided if to contribute or not..

And yet, by anybody's standard, that title was extremely ambiguous..

I would like to see more intelligently catchy titles, and I'm sure most good title speak for themselves even they they don't give anything away..

Unfortunately it seems most here don't have the intelligence to figure out a catchy title that DOES include the subject. It IS possible, ya know. I think even first graders can do that.

When I see a title "Hey" or "Fuck" or whatever, it shows DISRESPECT for not only the other forumers, but the site itself. Because you're USING the site the same way a troll does, to get attention for yourself.

It also shows disrespect for yourself because it makes you look like a retard who can't come up with a better title.

    I agree..

There are times when I can contribute alot here throughout the day, and other times when nothing "catches my eye"..

The difference? It's that feeling that nobody else has taken the time to ask a proprer question, or to say it to the wider audience..

The very thing that makes Hipforums so special, the interection between members who've known each other for a number of years, is in danger of alienating the newer members who can't find a way into the forums deeper processes..

so these new members, they're gonna want to stay when they see you whining to us about not posting right?

when i joined, i didn't find young hippies for a long time. when i did, i thought it was fuckin cool because it seemed like such a tight knit, trusting, open, random group of people. which it is. the reason i love it so much is because it's one of the only places on hipforums where you're not debating or discussing anything in particular, you're just catching up and hanging out and learning about eachother and whatever someone finds interesting... threads go by fast, they're not always articulate and a lot of times don't even have a point.

so, what's YOUR point? that hipforums shouldn't feel relaxing, like a giant family? that that is wrong, because.... well... i don't get your reasons why.

i don't get it. why does it matter?

Now that is the most intelligent thing I've read here in days.

They have no idea how many ppl come to this site seeking INTELLIGENT conversation, only to turn away when it becomes apparent that the "regulars" here can't even post an interesting thread title...

Of course, most potential new members never even find the site cause when they search for an interesting subject title, nothing comes up from the YH forum!

The "regulars" here don't get this cause they're young and self-centered.

Another thing is they miss out on responses from the REST OF THE WORLD, because they didn't create a good title. In fact they could be missing just the response they were looking for because the "regulars" didn't have it.

In fact, they could also miss out on meeting a new lover or friend because the person with just the right interests never got to see their post because they couldn't find the right title in Google. Yup, it probably has already NOT HAPPENED to someone cause they couldn't be bothered to state the subject of their post. Instead of titling a post "looking for love in Cincinatti", they called it "Hey".

    but, HEY, that's life...
