I live in a province with a relatively small population... less than a million. Of the people who DO live here, a larger percentage than normal are older... senior citizens and baby boomers. So, you would think, living in a place with a larger than average elderly population that I would be able to find some Knitting or Crochetting magazines, right? WRONG!!!! Lots of mags for quilting and other fabric arts, but nothing, zip, nada for us Yarnies. I can't find a copy of the latest issue of "Knit 1" anywhere. Even went to the "big city" to try and find it, but nope... they don't have it. Oh, and the nearest city that sells the magazine "Rebecca" ? TORONTO!! So, I could drive 29 hours to get the magazine, I guess... This has been pissing me off for some time now, and finally after my latest defeat have decided to share my frustration with you all, hoping that you have had simular experiances or at least understand where I am coming from. Oh, and also there are NO yarn stores in the province... stores that carry specialty yarns.. basically its the everything-in-one-stop craft store or Walmart.... not exactly a large selection of yarns. No wonder I unravel sweaters!!!
Firstly, let me tell you how much I love your term 'yarnies'... I don't know if that's authentically yours or if it's a term where you live... in either case, I hope you don't mind that I steal it. Secondly, about Knit 1 mag... I too adore it! Such a funky little 'zine... I tend to find my copies only at Chapters but not anywhere else.... why not get a subscription? Their website is www.knit1mag.com... KnitSimple is also a fun mag, do you know of it? Their website is www.knitsimplemag.com.... I hope that helps... and don't knock the whole undo-the-sweater deal, it's pretty sweet, and often get some better yarns that way!
can your library bring in mags for you thru interlibrary loan? when i lived in sask (i feel your pain, really i do), they used to be able to bring in all kinds of stuff for me
