Xanax for anxiety?

Well, me myself im not the most relaxed person i always go this tensed up feeling in my body and honestly i kinda just think negative thoughts that hold me back from socializing and other things. i tend to think of the worst outcome and i am horrible when it comes to people, i dont think i have panic attacks by no means, but when meeting new people i get sweaty my heart races and i cant remember what im gonna say and kinda breath slowly. especailly around females or large groups. now ithink thats normal i mean i think every guy would get nervous talking to a girl or anybody in front of large groups if their not used to it.

but a few years back i remember my friend giving me a very low dose of xanax a peach football. only one.

several minutes afeter taking it, the tenseness was gone, i felt like floaty like weights taken of my shoulder. and my tohughts weren't all over the place i could just think positive and its all good kinda thoughts, no worries. and i didnt feel the need to go socialize but if it came up i could talk with my head up a smile on my face and with enthusisasm to nayone.

i dont think thats considered abusing it. would it be realistic for a doctor to prescribe for my anxiety? cuase alot of people where i live use it recreationally, not just for anxiety, moreso just to get fucked up?

how would i go about telling the doc about my problems and if not xanax getting some sort of medication that would really help me out?

sounds like social anxiety. they would probably put you on xanax or another benzo with something like prozac or paxil or just the SSRI.

 

i went from oxazepam to ativan, but i don't like ativan at all...

my mother gave me one of her alprazloam (xanax) and they really do help me alot better.

how does Valium help anxiety disorders?

but they're all fairly addictive and tolerance builds up quick i find.

recently given zoloft, but its giving me restless leg syndrome or something.

i hate zoloft, it has the WORST side effects. when you do ween off, make sure you do it carefully, if you just stop taking it, it is very BAD....

Prozac has the least amount of side effects than the other SSRI's for anxiety disorders.

valium is used mostly to help ppl sleep that have anxiety, also if you have a panic attack and go to the hospital, they will shoot you up with a bunch of valium. thats the only time ive ever really enjoyed it! lol

xanax is very addictive, the best alternate choice thats close is klonopin.

 

i dont want paxil or any kinda shit like that. ive took that before i just passed out and was actually more anxious. i took my friend seroquel i just passed out as well. ive read and heard about side effects from friends who take ssri's and i just dont want that.

id rather have some xanax, shit that actually helps.

yeah dude. xanax works, that other stuff i think wont help, it really sucks being anxious. i think if i was prescribed xanax or some benzo, i would not abuse it, plus it would really help. i smoke herb and when i have it i cant really just smoke it once a day or a few times a week, i pretty much just stay high and conserve the herb to keep me high for as long as ican.

if i had some xanax or something, i wouldnt use other drugs as much cause iwouldn't be so anxious and i could chill with out substances.

 

yeah valium just passes me out. i dont really think it would help with anxiety. well for me anyhow.

my parents would be the ones to take me in to the doc to explain, cuase i have no car or insurance. but im afraid my parents will think its dumb and the doc will just think im bullshiting. which i am not. when i take xanax, not a shit load honestly, like i took that peach one and i was pretty good for the night and day or so after i was so chill.

i could easily be more sociable and make more friends, and personally more important for myself actually find a girl to be in a relationship with man. i can never work up courage to introduce, or if i do i justsweat heart race cant talk exc.

it holds me back from shit that is important. i just wish i could find a way to tell my parents about it and just get the doctor to believe me.

if all else fails though, i could just use herb as my medicine. get a job which im trying to do and just by a quarter of herb to just hit the bowl throughout the day as needed to keep me chill.

 

my doctor actually stacked up free samples of seroquel and i kept telling her, im not taking that, im not going to take that!!! i took one once and i sat in the recliner staring at the tv like a zombie. and the tv wasnt on...

 

All pills mentioned above are benzos, except Zoloft, which is an SSRI (BE REALLY CAREFUL WITH THESE)

All benzos work basically the same way, it comes down to strength, half life, addiction potential (which they all have) and longevity in which they should be prescribed.
For example: One SHOULD only be on Xanax for 8-10 weeks before switching to another benzo such as Valium or Klonopin. The w/d potential from Xanax is horrid, not to mention the w/d's. Below is a VERY helpful chart:

One last thing to add about benzos is what I have personally seen them prescribed for:
Panic Attacks
Anxiety (of all sorts)
Obsessive Complusive
Insomnia
Alcohol w/d's (Valiuam and Ativan more than any other)
Stress
PTSD
etc, these are just what I can think up off the top of my head.

BTW: Valium is not only the Grandfather of benzos, but the best for anxiety.... see the half life.

yeah i was like worthless when i took em. i was sleepy as fuck. i couldn't think right and it was just no good. i couldn't think i just sat there wishing i could not feelthis way.

my friend takes them regularly prescribed to him. he takes em at night and he is just gone basically.

 

i have anxiety and it would probably do me well to be prescribed benzos, unfortunately i used to abuse and overuse them for recreational purposes. im talking 5-7 bars a day at the peak of my addiction. i quit cold turkey off of that. not fun. don't abuse it you wont like where it takes you!

I was just thinking about this when i tried xanax for the first time recently. I took half a miligram, then another half miligram about forty minutes later. It was great and slightly euphoric. It was the absence of fear--not an abundance of euphoria--that made it such a novelty. I may benefit from half a miligram of this stuff once a day.

 

yeah. thats exactly what im talking about, if i woke up and took a half a milligram of it in the morning before i started my day, i bet things would so much easier, i'd be so calm. i could just enjoy my day step by step and make friends get a girl and just take all the tasks that get me down and just do it all real easy man.

you dont have to be "peaking" all day, sure id probably feel a buzz the first couple hours but then the rest of the day would be just like ahhhhhhhhh.

 

dude tbh i think im still feelin an after glow. its been over 24 hours since i took any. i took 2 mg in a 6-7 hour span.

but there are certain other factors in my life that might account for an elevated mood. It would be rash of me to assume it was the xanax. Other factors may have brought me to a point where I would benefit from the xanax. But I don't know, this is a good excuse for me to look at the literature (I'm not usually interested in popular, well-studied drugs).

 

My sister takes xanax for anxiety I believe. she has a lot of pressure on her what with her hus. going to school. I don't find it squeamish, most of us take substances. Mine are sorta illegal but good otherwise.

I've never been the most comfortable person socially but one week on zoloft made me sociable enough to form actual friendships. It was cool but I wonder if me being reserved helps cultivate certain traits that I very much value.

yeah thats what happened to me. i took a peach xanax saturday night. and felt good for the night, chill the next day and a llil the morning after then i was back to same ol anxious me.

to burn a bowl.

i also think keeping to yourself and just thinking of stuff and even just standing on the sidelines of human affairs is good. instead of just being immersed in what the group is doing you can sit back and question things and learn stuff about how people work. staying alone you can learn about yourself.

 

Yea, I have really bad social anxiety, and some depression. I am prescribed xanax, which are usually gone in a few days of the refill, and lexapro, which I ussually take as prescribed.

 

ive takin prozac and k-pins before and i dont think the effects do anything for me, ive never ate a xanax bar. are xanax close to k-pins?

 

yeah they're both benzodiazepines(sp?).
