Wtf? Surprised At The Sexist Attitude In The Mmj Industry

I am kinda surprised by the attitudes displayed by many dispensaries around here.
See lots of employment ads for "female budtenders" and almost every one says "model looking" or something similar and all of them want photos to even be considered.
Now I understand wanting nice looking girls weighing out buds, but c'mon, do they have to be so blatantly sexist about it?
Most places I've visited had a mix of male and female employees, but even those ones advertise for hot looking young girls.
There is one that all the "budtenders" are cute young girls and the "uniform" consists of tight yoga type pants/jeans and low cut tops and most of the girls wear bras to accentuate what the tops reveal.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a dirty old man like the rest of them, and not all dispensaries are like that, but some of the employment ads are very sexist and some almost border on being offensive.
just sayin'....

 

Sex does sell. We don't have dispensaries in this Midwestern area, and as such I cannot claim first hand experience on them however desire is a powerful tool, especially in such an unrestrained society as the one we claim today.

 

And what's different between that and say a Hooters restaurant or any one of those "sports bars" or collage grill/bar/whatever that require the same thing?


I'm not condoning it, just wonder why you single out dispensaries.

 

Oh, as I was typing it I was fully aware that my own naivete' thinking that mentality of "hippies and stoners" would somehow be different played a part in my reaction...LOL
and out of a lot of ads, those are the only ones I've seen with comments like "if you don't look like a model, don't bother", even the Hooters ones are more classy than that.

 

yeah, a lot of places only (or at least mostly) hire hot young girls. but i've never seen one advertise that in a job listing. generally, you just sort of know it.

so does legal weed, i would have thought. i'm as perverted as the next guy, but if i'm looking to buy some weed, the salesperson's boobs are the least of my concerns.

 

Because people will buy more shit if a hot young girl is bending over exposing her tits. If the ywere only hiring guys the social justice warriors and feminist would be out in full force posting about this on facebook, instagram, twitter etc...

this was on craigslist and so far I've only seen one ad for budtenders that didn't ask for pictures with the resume.

I'm old, ugly and missing too many teeth or I would apply....LOL

True, some places have rather high prices. The place I mentioned with only hot girls is higher across the board for everything, BUT they have a HUGE selection of just about any and everything, so I still go there at times to see what is available.
The one I frequent the most is cool about pricing. Any thing over 3.5 grams the price $10 a gram, which seems to be the low standard price in So Cal.
So I can go the one place, see titties and pay $400 for an OZ, or go to the other place and pay $280 for essentially the same quality.

plus the place I visit the most is fairly close and most important of all, everyone there LOVES Buddy and the girls made me start bringing him in with me. They hug him and take pics with him and he absolutely loves it.....LOL



although last time he acted like an ass when we left, went and stuck his nose in the crotch of a lady in the reception area, then when we left there was a car right outside the door with 3 dogs in it and a guy coming in with his doggy.
Needless to say Buddy got "excited" and I had to have a few words with him in the parking lot...LOL

 

Retailer Abercrombie & Fitch has gone under fire in the last 10 years for their hiring practices. They did the exact same thing! Except probably not in so many words. It's alleged that they would hire only the most attractive applicants.

 

It has not been my experience that dispensaries go out of their way to hire model looking women, but those ads are pretty ridiculous. I kind of held an ideal that the medical marijuana industry might be "forward" thinking as well, not basing the hiring process, on such trivial factors. It seems to detract from the legitimacy of dispensaries in a sense.

 

if this was really important, you'd think they would have spelled "professional" right.

 

Retailers in a free market have to do their best to please their customer base, no matter how unreasonable those customer preferences might be.

On the surface of it, seems like it could be considered illegal practice even, makes it more peculiar given the products being sold have somewhat of an ambiguous legal status.

Although I can see your point in the OP, this ad seems rather ok. Asking for photos for applying to a job where you work with customers is of course entirely normal. The only thing in this ad that could be seen as sexist is that they solely ask for ladies and not guys. But the qualities asked for in the job description are fine.
