I like to do Google searches: everything from Emily Dickinson to Robert Pattinson. Recently, I decided to search trailer trash (because I overheard someone refer to a cute celebrity as such). I've come to the conclusion that the term is meant as an insult. Big time. But why? Is it a sin to live in a trailer? If so, then I am a sinner (I lived in a trailer for 2 years). And why does that make somebody trash? You spend money on rent and utilities (the same as an apartment dweller). In fact, I actually felt like I had more freedom living in a trailer. There was a beautiful pond with living ducks.... a mere 100 feet from my front door. And I didn't have to nod hello and goodbye at a security guard - every time I came home (as I do in my current high rise home). Yet I am told how lucky I am to have a downtown apartment? Anyway, my point is that stereotypes are a mistake. I've read, Blake, Milton, Shakespeare, Dickens, Dickinson, Whitman, Parker, Ginsberg, Plath, Capote, Williams, Cummings, Frost, Pound, Auden, Sexton, Paglia, etc. I've suffered college, and published 2 books. I've never abused drugs or alcohol. Hell, I don't even smoke. Yet I am forever trailer trash (for living in a trailer park)? I just don't get the connection. Also, I discovered a rather poetic image of a "trailer trash" dude (thanks to Google). Notice the ink on his body: Heaven on one side, Hell on the other. And the beautiful goldfish - rising up from the lower depths. It's a lovely image, and something more worthy of an artist, than trailer trash. I don't pretend to understand society. But if this exquisite dude represents trailer trash... then I proudly stand beside him. And gladly abandon my boring and predictable downtown life. QP P.S. Special shout out to Shale: Hey, can you somehow make the foto larger - to help me illustrate my point? I'd be very grateful.
nipple rings. ouch ouch ouch >< Stereotypes. Maybe one day they won't exist? I do not enjoy them, though I must admit sometimes they can be accurate, and sometimes humorous (perhaps for someone with juvenile attributes like me), but I do not like the prospect of becoming stereotypical. Identity is very important. Genetically, you and I and every other human being are almost like clones, the thing which makes us different is our personalities.
I don't watch television (on purpose). I am very selective in terms of what I read. I also select my friends in a cautious manner. So I guess I had no idea just how clueless I was about the clueless world? QP P.S. I always liked what Quentin Crisp had to say about society: We all are trash. If we got what we truly deserved - we'd starve.
Oh, Im well aware Im trash, there's never been a time I havent thought Im trash... I always tell myself I'll never find happiness simply because I am not deserving of it. I always thought "trailer trash" was a derogatory term for southern rednecks... ah well.. lol
I totally agree. And I have lived on the streets and in a trailer. Yet I think the negative label is totally bogus. A good person can be found in a humble place. And it's not just me. :sunny: QP
Can I have a go at cheesy romance here? ready! here it goes: QP, you are trailer trash... but remember, one mans trash is another mans treasure ^^ <3
I have a guest trailer also. You're welcome anytime. That's in my other trailer, on my other property. :2thumbsup:
Sweetheart, you ain't no trash! And it'll be a long while before you're gone with the wind! So you best just step on such thoughts: You is gonna find happiness! Because I can tell. You gotta trust me in these matters. Okay? QP
Yo mama. But seriously, to be trailer trash, you have to live in a trailer and act like a goddamn fucking idiot. :willy_nilly: :smash: :ack2: If this isn't you, then don't worry about it.
