Has anyone had anything published under a pen name before? How did it work out for you?

Do you have to do anything legal before publishin under a pen name?

I've never been published but I have learned a bit about publishing under a pen name.

Your publisher (and agent if you have one...I suggest using one) both will know you as your real name. Your checks will come to you under your real name. There's nothing legal you have to do, as far as I know, to publish under a pen name.

    Hope this helps!

I'm thinking you have to get your pen name copyrighted before publishing. I'm just guessing because that's what I did with my album.

Hey. I am somewhat published and I use a pen name. On the title page of a manuscript you put your real name in the upper left along with your address and contact info, but you put the pen name under "by" under the title of the piece. On subsequent manuscript pages you put your real last name along with the page number and one word of the title. I'm sure you can find this online if you need a refresher or want to see the format itself. :^)
