I'm writing a 3000 word Essay on the Cunning Folk of English villages between 1500 and 1650 and yeah I know thats not a big essay to write but goddam! I am reeeally bored and its so fucking hard to concentrate. I've written just over 900 words so far. So heres a fun game. What was the last essay topic you had to write on?

had to right a 'research' paper about an industry or sub-section of an industry for my micro-econ class. so i wrote about the athletic sportswear industry, leaning towards products from under armour and rival products from nike and reebok/adidas

actually no, because its what i'm interested in learning about. plus it was really easy, considering it only had to be 2 pages long, double spaced....its why i put research in quotes in my 1st reply, cuz it wasn't really a research paper, hahah.

but the essay i had for my english class...oh man that was bad. it was a set topic that the prof gave us. we had to read Down and Out in Paris in London by george orwell. the topic was something to do with the Social Safety Nets in america, paris, and london during the 1930's. i wanted to shoot myself writing that paper.

The last essay topic I wrote about was paternal rights...I had fun with that one; I have a big one due in a few weeks that I have to write about cultural diversity...I don't have a clue where I'm going to start; and I have to do it in PowerPoint too...:(

I'd imagine that to be a difficult essay to write

What evidence is there to suggest that folk were cunning during that time span? Sounds interesting though. What sources are you using?

Last essay I wrote was for my Irish History class, on the role of socialism in nationalism.

oh that what was their nickname - they were like the healing people that everyone in the village would go to because no one trusted the bloody doctors!Using a range of primary and secondary sources. Robert Turners 'Paracelsus of the Supreme Mysteries of Nature' (London) 1655, has been a real help, its one of the books the Cunning Folk consulted (yes most of these people were literate - a big surprise for me!) and Owen Davies book on the Cunning Folk published 2003 has been BRILLIANT. Lotsa other stuff I found too but suuuch a mish! My question I chose was what were the folk magical practices of the Cunning Folk 1500-1655 and why did the Church and State choose to turn a blind eye to these practices?
