Cardio is the only way you will lose extra fat. You have to go jogging, or dancing or swimming or something that gets your heart rate up. Make sure your heart rate is high enough so that you can't hold a conversation. Be sure to warm up slowly first, and stretch afterward (don't stretch cold muscles). Once you've started that, then you need to modify your calorie intake. That all depends on what your height and weight and body structure already is,(for example a body builder compared to a dancer or compared to just an ordinary person) and how you already eat, and how active your every day lifestlye is, plus what exactly you are trying to achieve(lose a few lbs, tone up trouble spots, lose significant weight). In general, just watch your calorie, fat and fiber intake. You want to burn more calories than you consume. A quick way to shed some lbs is cut out all soda, even diet, for about 2 or 3 weeks and limit your fruit juices to one 8oz glass per day. That pretty much leaves not many choices except for water which is really good for you anyway. Also, cut out all alcohol for about 3 weeks. You should start to see your weight drop with those two little things. Then again for some people those two things might be the most difficult to do. If you give me some more specific info, I can give you some better ideas on meal planning, exercises, etc. sit ups are no good. they will hurt your back, and I have never met anyone who can do them properly (who hasn't been trainned). Again teaching exercises over the internet is hard. You can buy books, or even fitness magazines that have specific exercises in them to target certain areas. A couple of magazines that I like are Fitness and Muscle & Fittness hers. Pilates and a stability ball are good for core muscles (abs and back). Good Luck!
Deadbear's right....you need to do a lot of cardio. All the situps in the world won't make a difference if you still have that stubborn belly fat on you. Drink lots of water and eat lots of fiber...water weight can make you look bloated. For toning your abs, sit ups work, but you need to them them correctly. Keep your back straight, hands crossed in front of your chest, and lift yourself up just enough so that you "feel the Burn" so to speak. Try this site: http://exercise.about.com/cs/abs/tp/abexercises.htm They have lots of exercises that will help tone up your tummy.
Belly fat is also a sign of increased insulin resistance. Everyone has a certain amount of insulin resistance, some more extreme than others that require medication. *raises hand* Eating anything starchy and sugary raises blood sugar levels and insulin resistance, thus, contributing to extra flab around the abdomen, as well as butt, hip, and thigh area. Try to avoid products containing sugar, white flour, or corn starch. Replace these with more nutritious whole grains instead. That's my nutrition information. As far as working out, I agree with cardio. While burning fat and toning muscle requires both cardio and strength training, abdominal muscles require more cardio work and then real fun things, like crunches, sit ups and the like.
LOL you think crunches are fun too? You must be nuts like me Then again I make all exercise fun, or at least I try my best. The worst thing we can do is treat it like work. If we think of it all as having a good time, then it makes it so much easier to do.
thank you for all your advices ! ... cutting out alcohol and sugar is pretty easy for me.. i dont drink alcohol that often.. only a few times a year and a sip at a time.. sugar is harder to reduce... but i can try... i'd like to drop a few pounds.. if i can but i'm not stressing over that since i'm not over weight.. my belly is not badly bulging .. but it is just not firm.. i just want the "firmness" i'm about 5'6 tall... and weigh about 110 lbs... thank you for the website thevalkyrie !
I do these in yoga and they kick my butt(tummy) Lay on your back shoulders down hands locked behind your head elbows twards the sky not elbows laying flat on the ground. This is so that your neck isnt being pulled up by your hands...but that your back is doing the work. Legs streight up or if you are tight in the back of yoru legs they can be bent a little. You can eatehr put a small sized workout block between your thighs or you can do this without. Make sure your tummy and lower torso in engaged...this is to protect your back. This means tighten them. it also helps to engage your vaginal muscles too. Lift your but up off the ground with your back still on the ground reaching your feet to the sky and hold for a few breaths then with your but still up lift your shoulders off the ground bout do not pull on your neck..let your shoulders do the work. elbows still to the sky. don't forget to breath hold and put your back and but back down. These are killer crunchies. If you are doing them right you can feel it after like doing 5. You can really work it if you when you go back uplean the elbow to the oposite knee..then vice versa. YOu want to come up with the but then up with the upper beck then down but keep your legs up the whole time. Hope this helps. You really want to streach your torso and yoga can help. If you do some yoga and run or jog you will be in shape in no time.
