Okay, so this afternoon a kid my brother's age (17-18) came in to see about a job and apparently he had put in an application earlier, so my boss went to look for it. She couldn't find it, so she had me give him another to fill out and when I told him that I was sorry and we couldn't find it, he sighed like it was a huge inconvenience to have to fill out another one, but did it anyway. Now, my question is, would you hire an applicant if they reacted this way or do you think he had a right to be a little annoyed? Keep in mind, this is a fast food restaurant, so our applications don't take a lot of time or effort. Truthfully, I wasn't too impressed by his reaction, but I'm not a hiring manager, so I can't make any decision like that.
I'm glad to see I'm not just a bitch who overreacts at stuff like that, lol. I'm going to let Ramona know tomorrow how he reacted, because when he finished filling out his application, she had the asst. manager look it over, but they didn't schedule an interview yet or anything.
honestly, when i was doing the hiring i usually just hired the first reasonable applicant who showed up when i needed to hire somebody. but i would consider someone like that to not be a reasonable applicant, and would therefore not hire him. just curious, working in a small town do you get a lot of complete morons (mine were usually uber-ghetto; i suspect yours would be more of the white trash persuasion) who would come in and write their name on an application and then expect you to sign their little form so they can continue to collect welfare or stay out of jail or whatnot? i got tons of those when i worked in the city, but they were almost non-existent when i went to the suburbs. and obviously, they never got hired. although now that i think about it, i should have hired them and then fired them for not doing their job so they would be [hopefully] no longer eligible for such BS.
I totally agree, Ghost. For the first time since I even started there, we have great management and everyone's always in a good mood and always positive...work is really enjoyable for once in my life and I don't want one bad apple, ESPECIALLY a dumb high school kid screwing that up. This is the first time since I started that we only have one employee who is still in high school and there is virtually no drama. It's SO nice.
Undies, we've gotten just a handful of the ones who just need proof they're "trying" to get a job for legal purposes since I started. I've signed maybe two of those papers before and one of them was truly trying to get a job and eventually did get a job with us and stayed for over a year. The other was clearly just a crackhead living on welfare. Last time we were doing a lot of hiring at once, we had a guy put in an application and it was a riot. His reason for leaving his last job was "Went to prison" and when it asked about any convicted felonies, he wrote out about being in some Billy guy's car and they got pulled over and "Billy" threw drugs out the window and his lawyer said that if you're in a car with drugs, then you're gonna get charged with possession, too. I'm not kidding, he wrote ALL of that out, when all it asked was just what charges he had. It was great, I wish she would have kept and framed that work of art.
haha yeah, applications really can be the absolute most hilarious things you'll ever read. i kind of wish i had kept some of the better ones to hang on my wall or something.
I went to school with the kid's older brother and I really liked his brother and would hire him in a heartbeat if he applied, lol.
I would have had him fill it out then when he was all done told him that you had just handed him the attitude test and he failed.
Maybe he has a breathing disorder and you're all a bunch of dicks. Nah...just kidding. I wouldn't hire the little shit heal, either.
Yea, I wouldn't have given him a second thought after that. Sounds like he was inconvenienced to refill the app, and if it was that bad, how would his work ethic be much better?
if that bent him outta shape imagine if a custy would wanna change there order in mid order, he'd loose his cool, well if he ever had it to begin with
you are doing him a service by not considering him for the fast food position.. that would be a horrible job.. + you are only paid roughly minimum wage. if you are smart you can get a job making +3x minimum wage and all you need is a hs diploma.. but honesty, you are going to need to make a lot more than 3x minimum wage to be able to live a semi comfortable life in the nicer parts of the US.. oh yeah.. and in case you haven't noticed, you basically don't have much choice of potential employees when the position you are offering pays so poorly.
