alright, be forewarned, RANT WARNING !!!! nothing major

Ok, so at work today me and a few guys were bullshitting around. Like always, hanging out the back door to get away from the insanity. We were having a discussion, and it somehow got onto the topic of, hippies (oh boy !). Now, I tried to keep quite and kinda just steer clear of this kind of convo, due to me being in a quiet, mellow mood. So in the end, this guy pretty much things hippies, or anyone who believes in peace for that matter is a radical. My only answer to him was a quick glance, and the words "theres no escaping who i am" and the walk away lol.

BUT, this made me think the rest of the day, well. We look at ourselves are ourselves , but what do other people see us as? Radicals? that doesn't make sense to me.

And I don't make sense in general XD

The "other", always represents something inferior. Really there is no other, only what we ourselves accept, or reject.

I don't think of hippies as being "radicals". I think it's a little naive to believe in peace though, because peace has never existed and will never exist.

ya have to remember people have different upbringings and exposures to different ideas and people and cultures so their opinions are influenced by those

Actually peace is a state of mind, it exists with those who are at peace, just as love is experienced by those who love.

World peace is an individual choice.

    World peace is a myth.

Also, regarding inner peace.......no matter who you are, there will always be some sort of mental/emotional confusion and/or chaos caused by something in your life or something that is happening in the world.

As long as people are suffering, then how can our minds be completely at ease and at peace? If a person has any amount of empathy toward others, things like that will always stir emotions and, thus, preventing inner peace. Only a sociopath could be at peace in the world we live in.

Only a sociopath would forbid peace. We may choose anew in every moment.

Ive never considered myself a hippie, just a person. I hate the idea of labelling people into different categories, just seems to try and seperate people into fitting in with their own niche. I wouldnt exactly be considered a hippie anyway :p

Sociopaths are completely incapable of understanding/feeling the pain and suffering of others. That was the point I was getting at. Anyone who has the capacity to feel empathy cannot find peace in this world. It's impossible.

No its not, I care for all the people I know. The people I dont know, well Ill care about them too once I do know them.
For the last two years Ive been very much optimistic and at peace with myself. Of course I dont feel like this all the time but Id say over the last two years about 90% has been spent very happily, the more I learn and the further I progress through life, the more satisfied I become with it. A lot has to do with my location, the people Im surrounded by and my lifestyle.
I can see myself leading a very happy life at the moment. There is peace to be found on Earth, its just inside where you need to look.

You mean to tell me you never feel conflicted about anything? lol That must be nice:tongue:

Any peace I've ever felt has only been momentary/temporary, and was always followed by periods of emotional chaos.

in the world we live in - someone that believes in peace IS radical. there is a lot of unpeaceful shit going on in the world, and just b/c it might not be in our backyard, it's kinda easy to forget about.

but that's not to say there's anything wrong with being a radical and believing in peace.

i agree with TNS, but i also agree that world peace starts as an individual choice. but it's kinda tough to believe that EVERYONE will make that choice

Peace is within me every day. If everyone could find that in themselves, we would have peace.

That'll never happen though. People suffer, privately and publicly. People cry, for themselves and for others. People die, naturally and unnaturally. As long as these things continue to happen, peace will be non-existant.

We are anxious not for facts, but our interpretation of them. Those that mourn are comforted, those that live, die. These things are not an impediment to peace.
