Hey everyone, I am interested in the Roman Cathlic religion, if anyone is Roman Catholic please reply or add me to msn, sopheenthebean@hotmail.com -Sopheen X
I suggest you do a google search on it. Or go to the library. My knowledge of the catholic religion is limited as I am a Christian.
The Roman Catholic Church is quite possibly the most illogical, dictatorial entity to ever plague the world. Their idiotic rules are based not on the Bible or the teachings of Jesus, but on tradition. They endorse shockingly bad politics, and have done so for the last 1700 years. Oh, and the Church was founded by an emperor, not a religious figure. I shake my head and wonder how anyone can possibly consider the Roman Catholic Church to be God's church (as though God or Jesus even WANTED churches)
And yet without the Catholic Church, there would be no churches at all, since they all derived from it at the time of the reformation! The protestants took on board much of what you regard as non-biblical tradition, but watered it down, to leave a very bland product remaining.
Jesus never needed any churches. Yes, Protestant Churches are also guilty of following blindly what their leaders say, and endorsing shockingly bad politics (in some cases...Baptists), but the Catholic Church is the worst offender of all. As for your statement that without the Catholic Church there would be no churches at all...well, perhaps that's a good thing.
That's funny. Umm, perhaps you could use The Bible to show me where God was against us having a church to worship Him. Perhaps you can show me what on earth you are talking about. As I recall, The Bible instructs us to worship and have fellowship with other Christians regulary.
I didn't say he was "against" it. I said he never needed it. As I recall, the Bible doesn't say anything about setting up institutions to decide HOW every person in the world should worship, and to blindly trust the leaders of this institution instead of the Bible. You can worship and have fellowship with other Christians in a friend/family environment, through equal discussion. You certainly don't need to go to church every Sunday to listen to some moron blather on in front of a congregation. Assuming you're literate since you're using a message board, you can read the Bible just as well as he can.
Ephesians 4:11: "It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, some to be pastors and teachers; to prepare God's people for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up, until we all reach the unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ." verse 16: "From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and build itself up in love, as each part does it's work" It's important to be part of the body of Christ. To fellowship with other Christians and study the word together. Especially during the end times.
If so why did Christ say to Peter -'you are the rock on whom I will build my CHURCH and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it'? Perhaps you think that the Papal opposition to the Iraq war was an example of 'endorsing shockingly bad politics'?
actually the church Christ formed with Peter at that moment turned out to be, funnily enough, the Catholic church.... from which all other mainstream christian churches sprang from. And to say that the Catholic Church was corrupt 1700 years ago is saying that EVERYONE alive in the roman world was corrupt. George Bush is a protestant from what i hear and he endorses the most shockingly bad politics i've ever seen... so think before u chastise please.
You don't need some arbitrarily appointed church authority to tell you what the Bible says though. You can study with other Christians without going to church. What do you mean by "during the end times"? Please tell me you aren't another gullible the-sky-is-falling Christian. That's a rough translation. Jesus was referring to Jewish temples, as he never sought to break away from Judaism. His followers did that. Just because the church gets something right every now and then doesn't excuse the other 99% of the time that they get it wrong. Their opposition to homosexuality, sex education, abortion, birth control, and just about everything else is disgusting. Umm, no it wasn't. The ROMAN Catholic Church was formed by the ROMANS...and not until a couple centuries after Jesus lived. You lost me there. So? George W. Bush isn't the leader of a Protestant Church commanding his sheep to go out and do what he says. George W. Bush's bad politics are not relevant to the subject at hand. Anyway, like I said, many Protestant Churches (especially the Baptists) are guilty of hatred, intolerance, and idiotic traditions. The Roman Catholic Church is simply the worst offender.
The Catholic Church was not formed by Romans, it was formed by Jesus, but it did become an officially identified hierarchical system by Romans. And I would also like to inform you that it is entirely possible to be a Catholic these days without necessarily being a ROMAN Catholic. And to say that Catholicism today is worse than any other church is just naive.
The Catholic Church was most definitely NOT formed by Jesus. Jesus was born a Jew, lived a Jew, and died a Jew. Christianity was just a small faction of Judaism for the first several decades after Christ's death. It was St. Paul that made the break from Judaism, by claiming that you didn't have to be born a Jew to hear Jesus' teachings. How are you Catholic and not Roman Catholic?
Jesus was Jewish by heritage, not religion. He often spoke heavily against the Jewish faith because they did not believe he was the son of God. To this day, they are still awaiting the messiah. However, the Bible says that when he comes back, Israel will repent for not believing and they will be saved. The early church was built on the core teachings of Jesus Christ. But during time, this has mostly faded into traditions and practices rather than Biblical teachings. Jesus said that his message was for everyone. Jew, Gentile, etc., as he spoke to everyone. You say you don't, the Bible says you do. In fact, the Bible says that the true church is his bride, and he is the bridegroom. When he returns, he will return to take his true church back with him and the rest of his followers.
Pretty much the scourge of all civilization, but hey, they build nice churches. (and I think the language in the sermon on the mount was pretty specific about not praying in public)
Gathering in someones house studying the the bible, worshipping and praying can be considered going to church. It does not have that building with cross on it. The church is not a building with a cross on it. Its a body of believers. Well as christians we believe that having sex with the same gender is sin. I believe homosexuality is a choice. I also believe having sex before marriage is sin. Now on sex education, i believe there should be sex education. I believe they should be taught about birth control. Just because it could save there life or stop a unwanted baby. I think sex before marriage is sin. But we have to look at it realistically. And realize some people are going to do it. I i believe its better to give them the knowledge, then having disease and unwanted babies. Now on abortion, its plain and simple. I believe its a life once its concieved. So if you willing end that life its murder. I think it has to do with responsibility. If you are having sex you have to deal with the repercussions. And not take the selfish way out. There are so many people out there that would love to adopt a baby. The rape arguement all i have to say its not the babies fault why should the baby pay. The Church is a beautiful thing. But God gave us something perfect and beautiful. But us being humans we corrupted it to fit ours needs. So the church will always be good and bad. But when the time comes they will be seperated, the goats from the sheep.
Fair enough. My point was that there's no need to follow some arbitrary rules set by someone who claims to be an authority on the Bible, and give them money on a regular basis. If you want to study the Bible with your friends and call it church, more power to you. And almost all psychological research believes otherwise. Why? What does a legal piece of paper from the government have to do with whether or not two people love each other? Good for you. Unfortunately, the powers that be in the conservative churches of the world believe otherwise. What is your definition of life? A two-month-old human fetus and a two-month-old pig fetus are hard to tell apart, and neither can think rationally, so what makes the human fetus more valuable? If we're talking about the POTENTIAL for life, then every time a man has sex or masturbates he's killing millions of potential babies. Every time a woman ovulates, she should mourn the loss of her egg. I've never understood this argument. It sounds like you're more interested in punishing women for having sex, instead of saving the life of a fetus. Why should the MOTHER pay? Hasn't she been through enough? If the Church would just stop throwing its weight around the political arena, I'd have less of a problem with it. Every time it gets involved in a political issue, it just makes things worse.
