sorry, I liked the remake of planet of the apes. charlton hesston as an ape????? damn, cant come up with more of a shocker than that.
Back in 1983, they tried to make a TV series out of Casablanca. David Soul as Rick. It lasted only 1 year. Idiots.
i LOVED charlie and the chocolate factory! other then that most remakes suck, you guys hear about the omen remake?!
Gus Van Sant's remake of Psycho. Yes, I know it's already been mentioned, but goddamnit that was so f***ing pretentious it deserves a second, third, and tenth mention in this forum. It makes my blood boil! And what was it all for???? Hey, here's a classic movie with an iconic scene that I'm going to do again shot-for-shot. F*** Gus Van Sant! To this day I won't watch anything he is affiliated with. BTW, around the time that piece of shit came out, 'The Onion' ran a story with the headline "Gus Van Sant plans shot for shot remake of Teen Wolf 2". Did I mention F*** Gus Van Sant?!!
I don't care much for remakes, usually. Just curious,if anyone watched the Amityville Horror remake? I haven't seen it,but I will eventually. Still love the original.
Psycho. Please tell me why it was even needed. Nosferatu. Ditto. Now I disagree with some - I thought Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a different and therefore interesting and well done little film. Dawn of the Dead, ditto.
Stepford Wives The original made a statement, but the remake was a cartoon. 'The Planet of The Apes' remake was a great ironic twist of the original. In this remake 'The Apes' are an obvious metaphore of the savage brutality of the 500yrs of our global manifest destiny. So poignant it was powerful.
i thought Charlie and the Chocolate factory was better than the original, but its not really a remake, as its based on a book, and the directors just interprted the book in different ways
the new stepford wives was a statement too, it was just a statement made by fozzie\miss piggie\yoda\sometime captain strangepork he also directed the remake of little shop of horrors, the first one was a "real" horror film, his is the rick moranis comedy musical version, I expected what I saw and I got it and comedy can make statements too, people just underestimate it because all of the esteem that drama is given, I think that the directing and acting in the oz version were much better (if oz stamped) as for the worst remake, it has to be one of the movies that lindsay bastardized, parent trap, herbie (haven't actually seen it, but it can't be pretty, and I know it's not a remake it's an extension of a dead franchise) lohan is evil......
The Italian Job The Magnificent Seven (in it's various reincarnations) Flash Gordon Dracula (thinkng of that one with Keanu Reeves)
no arguement for the original theatre movie...was thinkin' more of those godawful versions made for tv....even a mini-series if I remember right...it was just bog-standard charismaless cowboy stuff...all smoking guns and horseshit
Nosferatu was in desperate need of a remake for one reason alone: the crappy crappy cheezy cheezy organ score. For that reason alone, I prefer Herzog's 1979 version. Did you totally miss the scene where Harker is journeying through the Borgo Pass and Wagner's "Rhinegold" symphony is playing? Majestic. One of the best moments in cinema. Add Klaus Kinski as the best vampire ever, and voila: the only decent remake in the history of remakes. Back on topic, the worst remake = Rollerball 2002
The Psycho remake was too much like a film school exercise. If I had lots of money and time, I'd want to do something craptacularly bad. Remake the Scooby-Doo movie as a French art film.
was it a remake? i thought they saw the flick and loved it so much and wanted to put it in a western setting. in either case the sequels to it sucked. bram strokers dracula was HORRIBLE. Such a let down because that was my favorite book for so long. though anthony hopkins had a few good lines.
The Remake of The Haunting was fucking atrocious although on the flip side im really liking all incarnations of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. From what i remember theres lots of remakes on the way, (hills have eyes, Evil dead,Day of the dead???and others i cant remember)
