OK music is subjective and a case of beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I heard this song on the radio yesterday, and cannot understand why it was such a hit. Stupid lyrics about sexual jealousy.
there's one that people will disagree with... but the one I really didn't like when it came out was "6th Avenue Heartache" by Jacob Dylan. The guitar is just misused! Oh my stars. I really couldn't stand it. nowadays I will listen to it sometimes, but the other half of the time it comes on and I change the channel to something else. Also, most of the stuff by Third Eye Blind didn't strike me as particularly good when it came out; though now I sort of like them a little. I was more into like Blind Melon a bit... I like Sublime. I don't know. It was hard for me to find something that was really hippy-ish in the 90s, but that's what I wanted. I thought that hippies/deadheads were sooo cool, but I didn't like all of the Grateful Dead's stuff; or Phish's stuff either. But it totally pissed me off that there wasn't this really definitive move on the part of most rock stars to be hippies. So I didn't like stuff that I perceived as going in the other direction. One example of this was my perception of Lenny Kravitz; who is arguably hip! I thought Kravitz's stuff was trying to be poppy or something. lol. I was twice as convoluted and mixed up as a teenager than I am now! EDIT: Also, the entire Superunknown album by Soundgarden. Yuck. If I hear the intro to "Black Hole Sun" I immediately turn into a frog.
It was a one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater One-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater One-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater Sure looks strange to me What's not to like?
Mac Arthur Park is one of those songs that has been covered by numerous artists. I guess they all thought they could do a better version than all the other ones. Ironically he was not the first to be offered it. I quite like the Richard Harris version though. All other songs in this thread I agree with.
The original from Mr. Harris? That one is really oddball! Donna Summer's remake isn't much better. Horrible singles? "Macarena" and then "Mickey" from Toni Basil in the early 1980s.
