They are little baby dreads- there will be a good long time of weirdness and you just have to accept that, before they are even anything it's just a mess.Some people it takes years for them to look decent.Ignore your weird head for awhile.You just have to have patience.. (yes, I know that seems rehearsed ,I say it to myself everyday ) Around my ears is hella weird too.From me moving them in front of or behind my ear - they aren't sure if they want to congo or come apart, I put some hemp wrap on those.
I am such a bad reference for this sort of question, but you never notice the progress until someone says "Oh Alex, your dreads are lookin' really fly at the moment" I guess it's just like trimming pubes, regardless of how much you try and evenly cut them or try and style them, theres always the lanky bastard pubes that escape the cut and you a lil' fro style around you *ahem*. Just keep washing them, wear a wool hat/tam, look at photos from stages before and then compare Don't lose hope. Alex

If you need reassurance every day from internet strangers, dreads are not going to stay on your head for long, whatever they may look like. Get a safer, more socially acceptable haircut now, and save yourself and all of us your constant hand wringing and prattling on. Or, man up and wait it out like the rest of us are doing.

Well they're not very old are they, it's best not to expect too much too soon otherwise you'll be disappointed and get frustrated. Just give them time and it'll happen eventually.
