http://www.break.com/index/the-worlds-biggest-pencil.html How about doing something useful with that money and time? Talk about screwy priorities...
haha I was going to say that someone has a lot of time on their hands! Maybe someone had a real love for pencils? Now, where are they going to find huge paper?
I am sure you spend all your time and money helping the victims of the floodings in Bangladesh or the AIDS orphans in Africa.
No, but I do try to improve the lives of those I care about here. I don't let anything slide, in hopes people will realize what they are doing and change. I myself am peaceful, and attempt to let others I come in contact with know, however subtle... so that perhaps they will "see the light" and remember whats truly important in life. In this very post - recorded for years to come - I voiced my disgrace at such a horrible waste of time. Perhaps someone will read it, agree, and when a similar situation comes along they will voice THEIR disgust, while I continue to do the same. There you have a positive impact on the world. Going across the world neglects my neighbors here, people I know and care about. Perhaps once we are all on the same page, all of us can go to areas of the world in distress... instead of myself doing a small part 10,000 miles away while people here continue down a destructive path. Going to great lengths to do something does not make what you've done any greater.
me? when dave retires, we're hopping in a winnebago or somesuch thing and hitting all the silliest spots in america. biggest ball of twine? check. alien crash site? check. garlic festival? check. miss potato queen festival? check. i've done enough, i've been serious enough, i have no guilt. i give easily and frequently. i don't have to lord it over a guy who made a really big pencil.
The very idea of its ok to do nonsensical and wasteful things in the face of hunger/poverty existing in perhaps that very town... is what continues the downfall of humanity. That wood could have been used to build a house... less recognition, but infinitely more purpose.
whatever, man. your pulpit is starting to look way shakey. people need a bit of silly sometimes. it's art. you got a problem with art? how is any art the least bit useful? so what if you don't think it's a priceless piece. it's someone's effort at something that appeals to them.
I reiterate - this mentality is what allows society to blindly spin into the pits. People "need" a break, they "need" to do something ridiculous - like make a 75 foot pencil. No, people do not need a "break" from doing things that are positive so that they may waste thousands of man hours on this nonsense. A "break" is all in your perspective... frankly this was some seriously hard work for some people... hardly a break. That seriously hard - extremely dedicated - work could just as well been viewed as a "break" while they were building a small housing development that sought only to recover its own expenses... instead of turning all those man hours and $ into something so absolutely wasteful and meaningless. Can you imagine the positive effects that money and time could have for generations to come? Now its a giant pencil that has acccomplished nothing but excess. There is no true joy in excess, only more excess.
I guess this actually means the pencil is not mightier than the pen, even if it is as big as the empire state building...oh wait that doesn't make sense....
Why be disgusted at someone's hobby? Why do you feel the need to judge how someone spend their time and money?
