Quite interesting...... I havent ever seen any of these!!!! (Must have been before VHS came out so what did these play on??)
The first domestic video system was the Phillips 1500 that only recorded for one hour to be later replaced by the 1700 system. This was later superseded by the 2000 system but by this time VHS had taken off mainly because porn was available on it. The Sony U-matic system was used by TV stations.
magnetic recording was certainly around long before consumer video recording products or standards. the first audio recordings were on a piece of wire. prior to vhs and beta, professional video recording, as used primarily by network television, was on half inch and even one inch and wider media. and like all tape recording prior to the casset/cartridge concept, was reel to reel. like those refrigerator sized tape units you see in early depictions of main fraime computers. obviously they had to have played on reel to reel video tape machines.
Hmmmmmm I dunno where my attachment went.... (Must have been deleted when we changed to IPB) Here it is though http://i61.tinypic.com/2l90ghh.jpg
