*sigh* further proof of vicious denial of females' rights in the world. ain't that some shit? who says the fight for civil rights is won? not i. http://haaretz.com/hasen/pages/ShArt.jhtml?itemNo=801449&contrassID=19
Yeah, it sucks, but that's what you get with religious fundamentalism. I'd still say the US and some European countries have got it as good as it gets when it comes to women's rights. We'll probably never be 100% equal in the eyes of society as a whole, but there's nothing you can do to change this. As long as you view yourself as equal, you're pretty much unstoppable (in this part of the world, anyway.)
yep. though religious fundamentalism isn't the only cause of some of these bizarre behaviors. religious fundamentalism doesn't cause racism, right? my friend has this amazing quote, i can't recall the author. it says you can be pretty sure you created god in your own image when you realize he hates all the same people you do.
That is a terrible story and it's a sad to know that this kind of stuff happens around the world everyday. Great quote by the way KC.
It's ridiculous that this woman had to endure such a cruel act. But I would like to know if she would have done the same had the bus been clearly marked for that particular religious sect? Was she trying to instigate something? I'm not defending these men. But you should, as a rule, obey the customs and rules of the country in which you visit, even if you don't agree.
it wasn't marked, though. that's the problem. they (fundies) just arbitrarily decided that whatever bus they decide to ride on is segregated. even still, they had no right to beat the tar out of her. if they have a problem, they need to charter their own damned busses.
