hi all, ya, so all my other such threads and attempts have fallen short but this time I plan to really do it. I'm 19 5'4 165 lbs with a medium build, I plan to lose 15-25 lbs, hopefully in 2 months but theres really no dead line. I am going on a simplified version of the Fit for life diet. all fruit in the morning until about noon, all vegetables in the evening until about 5, then a good cooked dinner. Don't eat after 7pm. I might buy some diet tea for the first few weeks to stimulate weight loss. Ideal weight 140-150...more like 145. more later, Tracy
I love fruits and veggies they are great for you! I eat at least 5 servings of EACH a day, that is 10 servings total. However, don't forget to incorporate some carbohydrates that are in the form of whole wheats and grains. Your brain needs glucose to function and it gets that from carbohydrates. Also, don't neglect the protien either. In order to lose weight you need protien and even some fat in your diet. I don't what your idea of a "health" dinner is, but just think about keeping things simple and balanced. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing. The thing about not having a deadline is good, but have specific goals in mind and a reason behind them. For example say "I want to control portion sizes for 6 weeks because I want to lose 10lbs in that amount of time." And write it down, and remind yourself of it every day. Sometimes more than once a day. Take it slow, diet tea won't help in the long run. What it does is dehydrate you and suck out all of your water so it seems like you have lost weight. As well as your diet you might consider some form of exercise, like walking or something that you enjoy maybe roller blading or something. Besides that I think you have made a very sound decision in the plan that you are choosing to follow. Take it slow and steady and keep us posted on your progress. You can do it! I have faith in you. If you ever need to talk, just let me know. If I'm not around here, then you can email me. Take care, Jen
ya-didn't mention the workout plan.. I plan to do some physical activity-walking, biking, jogging, yoga/tai chi, "the method" tape, or going to the gym 1-2 times a day everyday.
I heard that the diet tea is good to use short term cos it has herbs that help elimination and gently cleanse the system.
Hmmm, I guess it all depends on your view point or what you are using it for. There are people who believe a lot in herbs and things of that nature. They believe it works, and who am I to tell them it doesn't. And hey, in other cultures that don't have the types of problems/chemicals/preservatives, etc that we have here in America, maybe those herbs do work. But according to research studies, it really doesn't benefit you. I don't know that the herbs would hurt you, but as far as them cleansing you, it sounds to me like a way of saying it removes the water from your system. For example, if you drink a large coffee before weiging yourself, it will absorb a lot of water and you will weigh less than had you not had the coffee (an old trick everyone who did weight watchers used on weigh in day). Green tea has the same principle behind it. It is caffine, and it dehydrates you. I don't think it will hurt you or anything, so drink it if you want, just don't put a lot of faith in its ability to do much that you will notice. I drink Turkey Hill Diet Green Tea because I like the taste and sometimes I am just too lazy to make homemade tea, but I don't believe it will help me to lose weight on any kind of level. Check out the ingredients and do some googling to see if it really is something that you think will help.
heyhey! I'm going shopping for my diet tomorrow and starting it on thursday. I'll do my best to keep everyone informed!
A strict vegetable and fruit diet is not very healthy at all. The best way to lose weight it so eat a well balanced diet that combines all of the food groups. Protein (regardless if it comes from an animal product or not) is essential in building muscle. Carbohydrates (in the form of whole grains) provide fuel and the energy our bodies need. Vegetables (especially green leafy ones) supply important vitamins and nutrients, as does fruit. However, be careful with fruit. While it is natural, sugar is still sugar. Being overweight signifies that your insulin levels are elevated and eating too much fruit can actually contribute to gain rather than loss. Two to three fruit servings of fruit a day is perfectly fine. Avoid sugar and unnecessary starches from white flour products. I would also recommend switching from regular soda to diet, or eliminating it all together. Drink plenty of water for re-hydration. When it comes to exercise, thirty minutes or more of cardio a day will improve heart health. Adding weight training to your regimen will produce muscle while burning fat.
hihi you guys, i started my diet yesterday and it went pretty well. I wasn't hungry at all and I didn't feel deprived. I danced around for 20-30 mins as exercise last night and it was a good time. I feel pretty brisk. The weird part is I didn't eat much but I also didn't get hungry. I'm going to make a concerted affort to eat more, its just hard when you don't want to eat. I had a GREAt dinner though courtesy of my boy, rice with red peppers, some sort of greens, cumin, and black pepper in. it was delicious, I ate alot of it.
I'm also 5'4" but weigh about 152. Which is still ALOT more then before I ever had kids. I would like to lose about 30 pounds....yeah at my age & the fact I've had 7 kids, losing 30 pounds may not be a realistic goal. I've recently re-started going to www.fitday.com to keep track of what I'm eating & my activity level.
well I carry my 163 like its 145 no one can believe I weigh that much....I have loads of muscle under a layer of fat... but still I need to lose the weight. good luck on yours squawkers
dammit, ate a burrito while I was out tonight, but I will persevere... i should probably make sure to eat food before I go out for the night. more luck!
i lost 68 lbs over a year and a half.....you can do it..relax if you eat too much one time....it will happen ...just reduce your calories...exerecise more....and every once and awhile have a treat....it will take time...
heyhey yall, I lose 3 lbs in 5 days and i'm feelin pretty good. the nicest part of this diet is that i'm almost never hungry...more later yall
wow, 3 pounds in 5 days seems like alot....but hey if ya keep that up you could lose about 18 pounds in 1 month.
i went off my diet for the day. it was alright. I plan to continue the diet over the next 3-5 weeks. I am planning to start rebounding 2-4 days a week while going to the gym/lifting weights 3-4 times a week. I will also be doing tai chi a few times a week as I am taking a tai chi class this semester. I also hope to do some ab work and a sculpting video. I think I want to be strong.
Ok ok, I'm back. Sorry it has taken me so long to return. I get so busy sometimes. Anyway, I have a couple of quick things to go over. How about let's stop calling this program that you are doing a diet. I hate that word. It just makes me cringe when I hear it and has negative connotations all around. So let's replace that word with the ever popular term lifestyle change, or how about we don't call it anything, because in reality you are just changing your eating habits for the better, it doesn't need a name, its just the way in which you eat right. Cool. Now that is out of the way. let's go on to this going off the "diet" thing. Honestly there is no reason to do this. If you are eating a healthy well balanced diet most of the time, having something like a burrito isn't the end of the world. Don't just stop a diet because something comes up, roll with the punches. For example, today at lunch it was my good friend's birthday and we ordered out from a great deli. Needless to say, the choices on the menu weren't the best. But I opted for the salad with grilled chicken and low fat dressing. And then I had room for a sliver of ice cream cake. I didn't have to go off any diet or feel guilty or skip the celebration. Nothing of the sort. So just keep that in mind. Another good rule of thumb is to keep a weekly menu. If you write everything down that you plan to eat during the week, it is harder to deviate from your menu plan. So put it in writing! Post it on your fridge and remember what the plan is. Also it is a good idea to write down your goals and why they are your goals, and carry it around with you. I'm serious, I still have my goals in my purse it reads: "I am an athlete, I eat like an athlete, I train like an athlete and I think like an athlete." When I feel tempted by things that will not benefit my body I try to remember that. I'll again tell you it will not be easy. Hang in there you are doing so well. I am very proud of you and you should be of yourself meep. Keep up the good work! And keep us posted on your progress.
Today, 09:28 PM cutelildeadbear Hip Forums Gym Rat That was a great post! Could never really understand why people would want a eating plan that starts with D_I_E people seem to suffer on lots of crazy eating habits....but only until the scale gets to some magic number or until some special event is over. Then they go right back to eating all the junk (whatever they gave up to reach the scales magic number). Don't live to eat....eat to live!
I have not been doing well for 3 days but its alright... I've been eating healthy things just not following the diet... I think I've gained back all my loses. Its ok though. It doesnt help anything when my mom wont buy food when I need her to. makes it very hard to do things methodically. It also sucks cos she brings "good" food into the house all the time and sometimes its hard not to eat it. I don't know what to do...so confused. I am trying to actually change my eating habits. I will just need to start cooking more often and realize that cooking doesn't usually take more than an hour/hour and half so I shouldn't be worrying about how I could use that time..cos how better to spend it? I look forward to going to the gym tomorrow, I plan to lift some weights. I think I might like to lift three or four times a week...I would like to build some muscle. I'm still trying!
Glad to hear you're still trying. I am trying too. This past week has been pretty good in terms of eating healthfully and consciously, but it's been really hot here so I haven't been as active as I should be. I plan on being at my goal weight by Halloween. Do you have a goal time period? Also, is there any way that you could go grocery shopping with your mom? If you ever want to chat or need some support, feel free to PM me because it sounds like we're in the same boat.
