Hey, I got a version of winxp, and the thing warned me not to attempt to upgrade from win2k and todo a clean install, but I tryed, and now my comp is fuxed. It loads up the windows setup installer then stops. The bar fills up, I wait, nothing. If I try to load windows normally a system file is missing and it will not load. Can't be repaired. Can't boot off the CD. Using boot discs the same thing happens. Can't load the BIOS for some reason. Can't boot in safe mode. Any ideas?
Take the drives off - unplug power to drives reboot - if it gets past the bios screen your problem is that the bios is trying to calculate disk space I would imagine you are on a pentium 3 if that is the case If this still fails open the case and find the jumper that resets the bios and reset it by moving the jumper across by 1 pin then reboot and if that fails - try taking other bits of hardware off and rebooting
Well thank you for the response. Inexplicably the computer decided to boot off the CD earlier. Now I have reformatted and windows is doing a clean install. The only problem I have now is facing HoneyHannah when she wakes up and asks me how I fixed the computer and learns all her stuff has been deleted!
Did you delete the win 2k program before the xp. Because having two at once can really mess things up.
