I think I need a pair. I saw some neat butterfly wings on this costume site, but I want to make my own.

Any tips? I don't have a sewing machine, but I have access to one. I can hand sew quite well.

This might sound opver done and crappy but metal coat hangers and tights. .... now done quickly i agree it looks bad but ive seen it done well. I made some with jaycees 11 year old sister, she made a beautiful set of wings.

Bend the coat hangers to how you want them, choose the colour of tights you want to use and lay them over, you can add bobbles to them by putting in bits of fluff into the tights and tieing a band/sewing round it to create a bobble. Do two tiers so there are four wings. Now using some STRONG metal benders wrap the wires of the hooks round each other and secure with pvc tape/duck tape. wrap some nice fabrick around this bit and get some elastic/ribbon and tie some ties at the base of each wing.
I got a pair of basic looking wings from a shop and added a second tier of wings to it and painted them with uv paint. Also i used purple tights and then put on uv fishnets on top so it has a really good uv look.

The Pair i made... I went to the hardware store and bought some wire about the thinkness of coat hangers... went and bought several pairs of nylons and dye... Dyed the nylons... Shaped the wings 4 parts (2 tops and 2 bottoms) Placed the nylons over the wire. Taped the four sections together, Attached Elastics, Put more dyed nylon over where it connects (leaving out the elastics) And grabbed some spray adhisive and glitter... There sweet looking ...
