Just be thankful that Win 10 is coming out in '15. They claim that is overcomes most of the problems of Win 8, (which should be easy as Win 8 is one big problem).
best method to get into safe mode is not to hold F8 but as soon as you turn it on repeatedly tap F8 until you see the safe mode prompt. if you HOLD F8 some computers will think that this is an error and that the keyboard is actually stuck and will emit a beeping noise, so better to tap repeatedly. Ive fixed hundreds if not thousands of computers and this has never failed.
Would holding down the On button until the laptop is shut down and then restart work like you can with Win7 work?
try launching msconfig from command prompt ... I'm not sure where recent versions of windows store boot parameters but I don't think it is in a simple config file that you could easily edit with a text editor. I think it stores these parameters somewhere in the registry and they are very cryptic and difficult to edit by hand. windows can be a tricky system to fix when u don't have a working system to fix it from within the msconfig utility can be found at %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\msconfig.exe .. u will want to toggle the safe boot flag. not sure how far you are able to get into the boot process but you will need to run this as a privileged user and it will then boot into safe mode on the next boot. fyi...%systemroot% is an environment variable that normally holds "C:\Windows\", or whatever root directory that windows is installed in on ur system.
Well when you hold down the ON button to shut off, when you restart it gives you the option of starting in SAFE mode.
That's not a Win7 standard, must be a boot manager from your laptop manufacturer. Part of the recovery partition.
vista and win7 would go into recover/repair mode if you shut down during windows bootup never tried it on win8
