I'm surprised no one made a thread about this one yet! I've been hooked on this movie lately, it's sooo cool! I just bought the VHS on eBay, still waiting for it to ship. I'm 16 by the way.

I actually liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory better. I think it was just a little bit darker and less silly. And it didn't hurt that Johnny Depp was in it :p

I didn't like that one because they changed the character of Willy Wonka, and there was no singing. You can't beat Pure Imagination =D.

But mostly because the first reason. In the original, Willy Wonka is this eccentric, cynical, mystical figure. In the new one he's just bitter and emotional.

I think the original deffinatly beats the newer one for sure. You can't beat Gene Wilder singing in a top hat.

a different approach from johnny depp, but a hell of a film nonetheless. the oompa loompas looked like the al queada on DMT, but i let that slip and for what it was, it was excellent.

Oh, you do know where it's at don't you girl!

Wilder's interpretation of that tune was at once dark, creepy and very beautiful wasn't it? :)

    P.S. ...and I generally don't dig musicals.
(I liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory too, I dig Depp in just about anything.)

I was kind of the poor kid when I was growing up so there are still about 4 or 5 places in Willie Wonka that still make me cry. Gene Wilder was perfect in the role. I was dissapointed with the new one. It's too bad because I'm a huge Tim Burton fan and I also really dig Johnny Depp but I really couldn't get into the new one.

    Peace Out,
    Rev J
