hey everyone, i just came across this mini grow system on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...ff0f3f5&itemid=270579829971&ff4=263602_263622 this will be my first grow so please tell me if this will work, and anything else i need to know like what kind to grow in it and stuff like that also, i hear that once they start growing, new ones will grow in there places, is that true? if not can anyone tell me how to get new ones to grow? sorry for being such a noob haha
Yeah, it should work. You're looking at growing Psilocybe Cubensis; those are the most common magic mushrooms that are cultivated at home. "also, i hear that once they start growing, new ones will grow in there places, is that true? if not can anyone tell me how to get new ones to grow?" You mean once you pick them new ones will grow? If you follow this kit's instructions (it seems) that you will be making mushroom cakes (substrate colonized by mycelium which your mushrooms grow from). The mycelium will push out as many mushrooms as it can, which means after you pick the first batch you may get one or two more, but eventually the nutrition within this cake will run out and you will have to start new ones. Also, is it only me, or do the little pictures on the right side near the bottom of the ad show psilocybe cubensis mushrooms growing?
new ones grow if you only pick the tops off, don't pull the whole thing out, leave a stump and more should grow. Seems like it would work, but I don't know if that plastic critter keeper is the best choice, maybe a glass fish tank, a 10 gallon one will be like $20 at pets mart and much better for humidity.
While it's true that you don't want to wreck the mycelium by pulling the fruits out "wrong", there's nothing about leaving the stems that influences fruiting. Twisting the mushroom out of the substrate makes for the least damage to the surface, but it's the re-hydration and continued exposure to fresh air and light that triggers the next wave of shroomies to grow after the first one is done. Some really good growers can get 3-4 flushes, but for us newbies who are getting used to handling and recognizing contaminates, 2 flushes is about all we can hope for. But of course, once you have a single mushroom grown, you can take its cap shortly after the veil breaks and put the cap in the bottom of a glass, cover it up for 24h, and then you've got a spore print in the bottom of a glass that you can add sterile water to and make spore syringes. Once you've got a spore syringe, you can knock up a whole bunch more BRF or grain, and grow a larger crop. All you need is one shroom to get yourself going, although having multiple prints is a good idea in case the first one gets a few stray trich spores in it or something. Mycelian
Has anyone ordered one of these kits? Im very interested in ordering one myself but my wife wouldnt be happy if I just blew money on a failure that wasnt my fault. Moneys kinda tight now a days and since my hookup is now a worthless dope addict I need a new avenue. This looks like a great stepping stone.
...you should post this on shroomery and see their responses lol Come on man, it says large yeilds, and it's picture shows a small container with 3 cakes in it. The items description is retarded too lol, the guys trying to make it sound like a high tech mushroom growing setup for even "experts". It's a box with a light on top and 2$ worth of geolite. But he mentions it comes with a whole "Electrical Light System!" so must be worth it. Honestly a battery would be more useful than being like all other lights you have to plug in for growing. Also says it's invented by the "University Scientific Corporation". Google it and you'll find out it's nothing but a website that sells other grow kits and for some reason vaporizers and pocket scales....
What you need to do is go on some message boards dedicated to shrooms and read for a few hours. Find some articles too. You want to look into the PF Tek. Probably much cheaper than the grow kit and at the same time you'll get larger yields, gain knowledge, and be able to produce spore prints or some liquid culture so you can sustain yourself for future grows. Everything is right out there on the internet. Use it.
