why parents don't want you doing pot??

I was thinking about this in bed the other night. why do parents not like their kids doing pot? i mean, do they think it will ruin their mind, grades might go down, lose intrest in everything?
i mean, if your parents found out you were doing drugs, except you were awesome in school and everything, do you think they will not care?

i just think that instead of yelling, and punishing their kids, i reckon parents should seriously hear them out.

My parents always tell me, "I'd still care regardless of your grades only because I don't want you getting arrested."

Seems kind off ironic to me (too long to explain the irony..just assume you knew what I meant by that comment)

 

I think the main reason is the legality of it. NO parent wants to think of their kids as criminals, especially living in their home.
Even if it were legal, any good parents wouldn't approve of their 14 yr old kid smoking pot, just as they wouldn't approve of smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol. Even with legal substances, they have experience and are trying to protect their children until they are mature enough to make their own wise choices.

 

As mentioned before, it is illegal. Most parents do not want to see their kids doing illegal activites.

 

Yeah, I dont want to see my kids arrested just so they can spend all day in the currently poorly ventilated dangerous working conditions of the US prison system for 20 cents an hour before the fees imposed by the prison for housing them. I did not raise my children to become slaves of the state.
I want them to be free, and if they have to sacrifice smoking to be then so be it.

 

Same reason parints don't want me to watch pron. It's because the extablish says it's bad.

 

I think they viewed as bad for two different reasons. Pot is bad because it is illegal. Porn is bad because it shows sex and here in the US sex is evil until you are 18, 21 in some areas, and thus sex is immoral. If Pot were legal, loads more folks would smoke and approve of it. It isn't like porn until it goes against "our morality".

 

I dont think I will ever go to jail for havnig the quantity I ever have. worst case is some tickets, a misdemeanor, probation. I get all A's n B's in ap classes, and my parents still seem to care.

I'm not sure if I like the term "Doing pot". When you say it that way it makes it sound like something bad. "Smoking pot" or "Using pot" would be better.

 

There are so many things to consider as to why parents dont want their kids smoking. getting arrested for a start, it affects you in more ways than just getting in trouble with you mom and a fine. It can cause you no end of nightmares when you come to travel, try applying for a visa and declaring you have been arrested for drugs, my brother is no longer allowed entry into the US because of all of his drug convictions. Also when you apply for jobs or have to go through security checks, you have to state if you have ever been arrested.
So us parents dont want to just shit on your strawberry's and take your toys away, most of us only have a heart full of love and a head full of worry, we only want you to have the best possible start in life, and starting life with a criminal record is probably not the best way to go......

 

Well, because it's illegal it can lead to bad places. I got jacked by some smackheads with knives once, it wasn't pleasant, and i wouldn't want my kid to ever be in a situation like that. Y'see, parents are kindof attached to their offspring, and really don't want to see them dead.

And there is the whole apathetic-teenager thing, pot doesn't help with that at all.

 

even if you do well in school bud it isnt great for your lungs or general health. it isnt as bad as tabacco or alcohol but its not good for you. and when your high you can do stupid things that can get you arrested, hurt and killed (very rare though). Also. alot of people are convinced if you smoke pot you will eventually do harder drugs which will definately effect your health and mind. so even though its irrational you cant expect them to like it.

 

my dad doesnt mind it realy he just doesnt want me to do bad in school but im doing fine so hes OK with it, but his girl firend thinks ill end up using cocaine and she will lose the house because i will get aressted for an 1/8

 

Yet another "why can't you just let me smoke dope and let my boyfriend sleep over in my bed over night" type questions.

Here's the answer.

In the big boy/big girl world, there are consequences for actions. People don't like to talk about them much but I assure you they're real.

If you get busted by the police, here's what happens.

1) You lose the right to take on certain occupations, get certain clearances, visit other countries, etc.

2) If the police figure out your parents were "cool" then CPS gets involved. There was one woman who allowed her kids to party with dope and booze in her house that got 10-15 years in JAIL, girl.

3) In many jurisdictions, drugs = thanks, we now own your car/house

I realise you're like "wow, this inhaling smoke stuff is like really wow it feels good and stuff" but it can wreck your life in many ways. Either by making you lethargic and psychotic, or by PERMANENTLY screwing up your life by barring you from something you'd REALLY regret not being able to do later.

Your parents are mature, and grown up, and you aren't. Trust their decision.

 

for god sakes, stop posting in the Marijuana Forum. All you do is put everyone down, and many of us know all the shit that can happen to us. But frankly, no one gives a damn or else we wouldnt smoke. You're needlessly preaching to a crowd who doesnt want to hear it.

My parents say they dont want me smoking

1. because it could effect my grades.

The only people's cases I've gotten on were kids who seemed to think that doing stuff in their parents' homes was perfectly OK.

There are quite a few adult stoners who've made that choice and they're OK by me.

 

my moms only issue she said is the legality and my dad is just naturally a prick!

neither my dad nor my brother have ever done a drug but the difference is my brother is indifferent and my dad talks about pee testing me all the time...

an example of my dads prickness:

last weekend my girlfriend wanted to go visit her sister who lives like a half hour away. the plan was wed go over there and hang for a few hours and get picked up later(im a bum who doesnt have a license yet!) you know what my dad said to me? "I want to pee test you when you get home, ok?".....now maybe some of you think thats not so bad....but listen.....my girlfriend's sister is 12 years old!

 

As a mother of 3, who has smoked alot and drank even more, I can tell you that I would anyday rather my kids smoked weed, than to have them drink. Drinking can and does fuck you up. You can be more responsible with weed, when you drink, and if you drink alot, you start to lose control. Fuck, I've cracked my forehead open and lost my car in a parking ramp one night and for the life of me, I honestly don't fuckin' remember. (BTW the car wasn't even in the ramp, we had left to go somewhere else...don't even remember it) Just think if I would have thought, oh I can drive, then go out and kill someone because I'm stupid and don't remember? Weed does not and will not effect you like this. Weed is like Zoloft for me, it just evens me out and I can go about my day.

 

That's part of your problem, you don't want to listen to good advice.
Every person older than you, inc. your parents, has been where you are right now. And they've gotten smarter since then.
