Why is Hip-Hop called Hip-Hop?

Is it because the Hip-Hop enthousiasts are hiphopping to the rhythm of the music or maybe because this particular style of music was originally called Hop, but was later made hip by some of the coolest musicians in the world?
Or maybe some other reason?
