they are pretty kick ass. newborn lambs i think weigh in the 6-14 lb range like goat kids, i think around 8 lbs is normal. do coconuts migrate?
I seen a turkey take out a dump truck, smash thru the windshield and stand on the seat like nothing happened, dump truck was doing 35mph too. I think a turkey could beat an eagle in a fight...
there are baldies all around this area... the National Eagle Center is about 20min from where i live.. when the river opens up you can easily see 50-100 eagles feeding on the ice
i don't think i've ever seen an eagle in the wild, but i see lots of hawks, which i love. i once saw a hawk fly low overhead with a small rodent in its talons, while i was tripping. t'was amazing. i also saw a hawk getting attacked in the sky by two smaller birds. that was crazy. funny that you mention the turkey, orison, since it was suggested as the national bird, instead of the eagle. but we might feel weird eating our symbol that is badass though (the OP) i re-posted on FB
one time me and two co-workers were out in the alley smoking a cig.. and we watched as a hawk swooped into the alley and took out a sparrow that was in the dumpster across the alley from us.. it came swooping down and literally crashed into the dumpster.. you could hear the thud.. then it hopped up on the edge of the dumpster with a sparrow in one claw and flew off
^^^nice yeah, i like hawks:afro: but, when i saw those smaller birds (maybe sparrows) getting that hawk, i was kinda happy for them. underdogs (or underbirds) i have video on my phone, wish i could upload it
i was at Coventry (phish's "last" festival) and the last set had just ended. buses drove off and people are still just milling about the concert/stage area not wanting to walk away yet. so there's a small group of us standing there by the stage - most everyone else had started walking away - so we're kinda out in the open at this point. It's probably 1 or 2am and at the very least, i'm still tripped outta my gourd. this one guy in our circle of people is talking and motioning with with arms. he says something and sticks one arm/fist in the air. ALL OF A SUDDEN, this goddam bird (could have been anything - i kinda forget since it was so long ago and i was kinda messed up - but it was BIG) flies in outta nowhere and lands on his fist. we all just stand there stupified with our mouths hanging open..... after a moment, it just flies away. we look at eachother - in utter surprise - and are speechless. eventually, someone asks, "did that just happen?!" i had to keep reminding myself that it DID just happen. i mean, it's about 1:00am - you usually don't see birds like that flying around. let alone landing on hippie's fists. that was one of many crazy things to happen that week/weekend. holy shit...
America r00lz! It really bummed me out when I saw two of them in the zoo. They can barely fly around. They lamb deal was crazy too, ha!

There are tons all along the coast and up the rivers here. I've had a couple memorable Ealge moments. I was working in the Haida Gwaii Islands surveying along North beach and we watched a half dozen crows ground an eagle for almost an hour. Every time it would try to take off, one would dive bomb it. It was a pretty sad sight, really. I've also seen one latch onto a Chinook so big that it dragged the Eagle back down into water. Once their claws latch onto something they can't release very easily. There are so many here they aren't special at all though. In the Winter, there are always hundreds of them at the dump. They'll disperse a bit when the Eulachon start running.
