I can't believe they are using melamine in their baby formula. This is the same thing they did with petfood that they sold in the western world last year. What's bad for pets is ok or their own kids?

The government is saying they are going to investigate and come down hard. Well the last guy responsible or the pet food scandal supposedly committed suicide. Better he should have been taken to trial and they found out the reason for it and instituted safety measures.

That's how the mind of someone who does everything for money works. It's strange.

You have to remember that the Chinese have only recently entered the international market with their products like this. Capitalism is still a newish thing over there.

It took us decades to assemble all the checks and balances we have here, and it still fails us from time to time. The Chinese will address this problem in their own way. I pity the guilty in a land where life is still cheap.

I would think some of the billions spent on the olympics could have been better used to research why their manufacturers are lacing their commodities with a known toxin. And perhaps provided the salaries of inspectors to make sure it didn't happen in the future.

the chinese goverment has plenty of peasants, if they lost 100,000 to the milk it would be be a drop in the ocean and if anyone protested they could just shoot them as counter revolutionaries

so called invasion of Tibet -over 50 years ago

here is a map of china from the13th century, - note that Tibet is a part of China
here is another from the 19th century - note that Tibet is a part of China

no country ever acknowledged Tibet as a country , so 'invasion' is the wrong word.
That there were atrocities there is no doubt, all over China in fact, that is because Communism is terrible, but the more capitalist China is getting , the better the situation is for everyone. Note that in the last Lhasa riots the police didn't come in until Tibetans were actually killing people on the street - the police didn't intervene for 24 hours , where in the West would you get that?
