My chocolate lab apparently ate a load of cat shit in the litter box while I was dropping my oldest dd off at a friends house. I didn't know this happened untill a little while ago when right in the middle of the living room floor he yacks up a puddle of straight shit. The puddle was as big as a body pillow. He is a big fat lab ...about 125 lbs. Anyways, this shit puke stank to high heaven and we all about yaked along with him LOL NASTY! Anyways, he has been puking off and on every 20 min or so and he just acts sick. Has anyone ever had this happen? Should I worry ? Im really pissed off that he decided to eat shit in the 1st place but don't want him to have something bad. Im thinking that if he is not better after tommrow that we will head to the vet. I just don't get what is so appealing about shit. ...But then again I don't like anal sex either
lol I have a Choco-dog who is exactly the same! He eats cat shit, deer shit, dog shit and other unrecognizable brown things. I was about to post here asking for advice, but I figured it was too disgusting to even mention. Yucko. I hate even thinking about it. On a positive note, I managed to get his weight down from 125 lbs (when I first got him) to 65 lbs. I did this by getting him off the commercial dog food (nasty what they throw in there) and instead making his meals fresh. I feed him exactly what I eat. He's now happy, healthy & energetic... but he still eats shit!!!
Cat food is high in fat. Dog food is not. Dogs, given the choice, will eat cat food or even pre-digested cat food, which is STILL high in fat. Cats require a high fat diet. Like human beings, dogs do NOT thrive on that but prefer to eat it.
That's interesting,my dogs do love cat food..they think it's like a treat. Could it be that he ate some of the kitty litter along with it? Maybe that's what made him sick.
The crunchy tootsie rolls are irrisistable for dogs... Could be, they put alotta shit in litter these days..clumping, deodorizors...
Theres some sort of chemical reaction that happens when cat shit and the litter mix. Dogs love it and thats why they eat it. Too much will make the dogs sick though and if they dont improve within a couple of days you should take them to a vet.
I would move the litter box to a different location where the dog can't reach it -- cat poop is VERY bad for dogs. It is very rich and can cause pancreatitis, an extremely life-threatening condition, as well as gastritis, which is what my friend's dog developed and almost died from after eating cat poop. The dog can also become a host to toxoplasmosis and transmit it to you and other people, which can be deadly. It can eventually increase to the dog eating poop it finds everywhere, which can cause the dog to get parasites. Corophagia is definatly not a small thing to be dealt with because the possibilities are endless.
